Library collections disposed of.

In the UK Libraries do not seem
to have room to expand their collectons.
Therefore, they dispose of many books,
music scores and recordings,
to make way for more new material.
Because this happens with reference books,
the Libraries are depleted of important reference material.
Has anyone noticed this happening
in other countres?
Thanks, Kristina.

Our local library gets rid of books every year or so, too...
Seems a pity, but I suppose that there's only so much space...
In keeping with the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' philosophy, our library gives retired books to Senior Citizen's Clubs, Nursery Schools, Daycare Centres for Older people, and People with Disabilities, and prisons... So there's no waste...

Do you know i cant remember the last time i visited a library ! In fact i dont even know if we have one! I tend to buy books from charity shops , they are very cheap and at the same time the charity is getting some money. I also return them to them when read !

I do that too, KS.... I'm sure the charity shops dread seeing me coming... I'm usually bringing a LARGE delivery of books!...
