August 2009
Hi all, I'm a social worker with hemo pts.  I'm here to find out, maybe, what some of the folks I work for are thinking.  Privacy is definitely a huge issue and even the office isn't sacrosanct at times.  I will be asking a lot of questions as a social worker and hope this will help me with 'my guys.'
And, if money weren't an issue, I would get one of everything from the IHD gift store.  This stuff rocks!

 :welcomesign;  and thank you for joining the best site to gain real insight into what your clients are experiencing.  I am on my second transplant, was a social worker with adolescents and their families after a first career as a university teacher of French language and literature.  I did a social work placement at a big hospital in the renal (and dialysis) unit but no one (other than my direct supervisor) was aware that I was also a transplant recipient.
Ask any questions you might have and we'll give you the whole gamut of possible responses.

It's always nice to know there are people who care enough about kidney patients to learn more. Welcome to our forum!

Going through life tied to a chair!

« Reply #6 on: August 25, 2009, 11:10:18 PM »

Welcome to IHD
                           :welcomesign;

If privacy is a "huge" issue then why do the doctors, dietitions, and social workers talk to us at our chairs?  I know everything there is to know about the people around me and I'm sure they know about me.

I don't like knowing more than my Social Worker, so study up.

Well now that i know your a social worker your name finaly makes sense to me LOL.
Welcome to IHD.

At my clinic i wonder why there is one person who handles medicare part A and B who is not a social worker.  But if i have questions about part D i have to speak to the social worker??
I have yet to see my social worker so can i ask you.  How long does it take to collect Disability once one decides to go on disability.  And can you work (if able) up to the point of your first disability check.
How much can one earn outside of disability to be able to stay on disability?

Hope to see you on many of the threads.

Welcome to our community!  We love having anyone who has any connection whatsoever to our renal challenge (and even those with no connection!).  This is a great place to get to know what is going on with us renal patients. You will soon find out that you have joined a genuine family  :grouphug;  Keep reading and keep posting.
