I have had all the test done for a transplant and I had a donor, my grand daughter who is 22 years old. Well she has had everything done and the last test they did was a 24h urine which showed high protein. She was tested again and the same results. I am sure now that she will be rejected.
My question is how do i get on more than one transplant list. I am on a list through the Methodist Transplant Hospital in San Antonio TX. How do I register to others?
I am now on PD with the cycler.

You can go on the internet and which ever hospital you want to go to just contact their transplant dept. and request an appointment. I went many years thinking the nephrologist's Dr. had to refer you, but he don't.

Go for it!

Added note, make sure the other transplant center is not  in the same network. If it is in the same network, you will have to choose betwen the two on which one you want to stick with. Just need  a few replies from the members from Texas who have done this.

Added note.  High protein is a classic sign of kidney disease.  Make sure your granddaughter gets to a Nephrologist.  They may put her on a low protein diet.

Betty, I got listed at one hospital and then called one in a different procurement area and asked for an appointment there. The first hospital shared all of my testing, so to be added to the list at a second hospital is much easier.  Good luck with your search.

Betty, I'm also in San Antonio.  I received a non-related, living donor transplant on Nov. 5th at the Christus Santa Rosa Hospital over off Babcock.  I would recommend them, but I believe Methodist's protein limit is higher than Christus.  I believe I heard the the protein cut off for Methodist is 200.  And the cut off at Christus is 150.

Good Luck!  University Hospital is also supposed to have a good transplant team.  Call over there.

I'm sorry your Granddaughter was denied.  But have her seen by a Nephrologist just to be safe.  Kidney disease has to start somewhere.   :cuddle;

Can someone tell me what are ALL the tests?  Does it vary depending on where you are listed?  What tests does a live donor need to go through?

YLGuy,The test I had to take were a cardiology work up including a stress test,  pap smear, colonoscopy,mammogram , I think that is all. My grand daughter had to do 24 hr urine, a MRI of her kidneys and I don't know what else.

The first day for me they drew like 12 viles of blood.  I had to see a dentist, a cardiologist (stress test, MRI, EKG), and my Gyno.   Basically, what I was told is that they want to see if  "health wise or physically" you will at least live another 5 years.  I don't know if that is true or not.  I think that's all I did.  It was a lot of testing though.  Urine tests were included in all my testing, as well.

My donors did a large blood draw at first to determine lab and blook type.  Once that was cleared they were admitted to the hospital for 24-48 hrs.  The first day in the hospital they did EKG, chest x-ray, multiple blood draws and blood presure checks (I think they drew blood every 1/2 hr for the first 2-3 hrs).  If they passed all that they stayed the night and they did a sonogram/ultrasound of the kidneys.  That was the final test.  Oh, and of course they did urine tests and such.

Not all places do the overnight hospital stay.  Actually, my donor (sis-in-law) was the last person they admitted for testing.  After her they started sending donors out for testing.  It's good and bad.  My donor's liked getting it all out of the way at one time.  Other donors I heard say they would rather not take time off of work to test.

Good luck!

For my work up pre transplant, they also did test on my lungs along with other test previously mentioned, well except the gyno part. My first transplant center did not do much of any test prior to me being listed with them just for a kidney. Went to another transplant center for a kidney and pancreas and they did the stress test, ekg, x-rays, CT and MRI's, blood, and lung test. No urine test since I couldn't go very much and often. So it just shows each center is somewhat different on what test they will do and organ type might add more. As Kelly found out, her hospital switched on how they test donors. Mine would have the person come when they can or do it at a lab closer to home for convience of the donor. If that lab didn't have a good scan, then they would do it there. Some hospitals even have an age limit on who they will transplant also.

I didn't have to do the colonoscopy (thank the Lord).  I wasn't old enough.  Wenchie probably did the colonoscopy, though.    :rofl;   Love you Wenchie!
