Cycler setup question

Last night we got in real late. I set up the cycler (baxter), etc. I wound up falling asleep before connecting and woke up 7 hours later (best sleep in weeks). My question is, can I leave the machine set up until tonight or should I start over with a fresh setup? I will be doing some manuals today to make up the missed treatment last night.

I don't know if we have the same machine, but if you mixed the bags, then you have to use the fluid within 24 hours. If you primed the machine you need to connect and start dialysis within an hour. If this doesn't mean anything to you, then we have a different machine.....
If you are not 100% sure, it's best you do it all over again, that's the advice I was given.... peritonitis is nasty!!

I also use Baxter, and I'm of two minds.  One part of me thinks that once you've connected everything (except yourself) it then became an enclosed system and nothing could get in or out, so you would be safe using it the second night.  The other part of me says better to err on the side of caution, dump everything and start over.  Doing the manuals during the day is a smart idea to keep from getting fluid overloaded.  Good luck, whatever you decide.

Hi George;   Certainly you have to do what you feel the most comfortable with.   I also use the Baxter cycler.  I have to start on it in the mid-afternoon with an exchange, and then disconnect until bedtime.  If I've got to be out & about during the day, I will get the machine set up in the morning, so that it's ready for me to connect when I get home... all primed and ready to go.  My last fill is just fine the following morning at 8:00 a.m.    I agree with peleroja that it's an enclosed system, so it should be fine.  Again, only an opinion, and obviously it won't hurt if you just want to start it over.  :-)

You dont need to start dialysis within an hour if you have primed the machine thats for sure. I always set mine up hours ahead of use.  The fluid isnt exposed to anything so should be fine , just wipe down surfaces again etc to be on safe side.
