BALASORE: A woman offers to sell her kidney to pay for the treatment of her husband, who is suffering from severe heart ailments. Doctors have said Amarendra Jena requires an open heart surgery. To save his life, his wife Minati is willing to sell her kidney. Sadly, she hasn't found a taker yet.
Amarendra (46) of Jhagadpadhi village under Ranasahi panchayat, has been suffering from heart disease since 1995. He underwent a surgery and was doing well, until his condition deteriorated in 2007. He started feeling chest pain again.
"But I have not been able to collect Rs 2.5 lakh needed for his treatment. Until I manage to arrange for the money, I cannot get my husband admitted to hospital," Minati said.
Amarendra would work at a garment shop here. He was happily married to Minati and a proud father of two. After he was diagnosed with heart disease in 1995, he underwent a surgery at a private hospital. "We sold our land to bear the expenditure of the operation," she said.
"For nearly 12 years, his condition was okay. But in 2007, he again started having severe chest pain. We consulted a doctor, who detected two damaged valves in his heart," Minati said, adding, "But now we do not have any resources.
Although my eldest daughter, who is in college, earns a little by teaching students at home, it is not enough to meet Amarendra's treatment, she said. "I am ready to sell my kidney. If the amount still falls short, I won't mind selling other parts of my body. At any cost, I will save my husband's life," Minati said.
Rs 30,000 has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. For the remaining amount, she has sought help from individuals and private organizations. People eager to help her are welcome to contact Minati Jena at 97789-34497.
