Hi!  It is nice to meet y'all.  I am the daughter of a pd patient.  My father who is 78 was diagnosed last year with chronic kidney failure after experiencing several years of declining kidney function.  He started pd in November of last year and has been having problems with the cycler.  I am hoping to learn more about other patient's experience with pd- the good, bad and the ugly, as the saying goes.

 :flower;

Thanks!

I tried the pd for a while, but it didn't work.  the catheter didn't drain properly and i wound up gaining 30 pounds in less than a month. so I had to have the fistula placed and the pd catheter removed.  It didn't work because there was some other membrane in the peritoneal cavity that was stopping it from draining.  The more I thought about it though, hd seems to be better for me.  it's 3 1/2 hours three days a week as opposed to 10 hours every night.  Welcome aboard.

Welcome to our community, Maude!  Are you from Savannah, Georgia? It's great that concern for your father brought you to our website.  By the way, this is  much more than a website - it is a wonderful caring and sharing family  :grouphug;  Not only is there lots of information, there is also lots of genuine support.  Some of us don't know what we would have done without IHD.  So just keep reading and keep posting.  We need to know how your dad is doing.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks!
call the company when alarms go off you may need to exchange it,,but something that helps with alarms is to tape your line that comes from the top bag on the top where your casseete attaches so its level ... this helps with the tubing when bag is low from not sucking on the bag to prevent alarm check patient line.. the machine reads there is a clog as well the top bag back half is propped up on clipboard or something this will help too for the end.. feel free to ask i will help if i can..

Hi, Maude.

Welcome to this family.  :cheer:

You will find all sorts of information and support here. Take your time to read through the threads on PD for some of the answers to your problems with the cycler. And if you don't find the answers you are looking for there, ask away.

Sorry, I don't know much about PD, but there are a lot of knowledgeable people here, more knowledge on this board than in hospitals and dialysis centers. Lots of support and positive vibes here, also.

I am glad that you joined the group. :grouphug;
