Do you have a service connected disability? Also if you find you have to travel then ask them if you can go to your choice of clinics on a "fee basis". If your not service connected disabled then they generally charge a $50.00 co-pay for each treatment at the VA. Unless it's different in different states. I have several vets in our clinic but all have some sort of service connected disability and they use fee basis which pays for everything they need. Either way call the VA and tell them you would still like to check into Fee basis payment. It may save you having to go directly to the VA. I had to do same with my service connected disabilty in order to get treatment for another medical issue as the waiting list for the VA hospital for orthopedics was over a year. They paid for me to go to a private ortho and I had 2 surgeries at our local hospital. They paid it all. I find the VA doesnt always tell you all your options.
