Kidney Disease needs a spokesperson

I beleive that Kidney Disease needs a national spokesperson, like Micheal J Fox is for Parkinson's...

If we could pick someone from this website to be the spokesperson, who would you pick...

I think that the perfect person from this site would be Zach, so much experience, positive outlook, great diet!

All four named so far are all excellent choices- I would give Bill the edge- because he is already standing up for dialysis people in important ways consistently. His articles are republished (probably without permission) in the local non profit news letters already. Didn't he testify before a congressional committee already?

Bill and Zach give us all so much hope and inspiration. And they are both so educated re: kidney disease.  And they are both cuties!  Okarol is a marvelous advocate.   Sluff fights for each one of us and gives his heart and soul to IHD.   Good question, Kim.  Maybe it should be you!

On another note I was listening to the Radio yesterday on my way home from work.  I listened to a guy named Carl Dukes and he was  talking to Alonzo Mourinig he was a basketball player for the Miami Heat that had a Kidney transplant. He said he is going to become a spokesperson and donate money for research. It was a great interview i looked for the transcript but have not found it. One of the main things he said was that really was something I learned here on this sight was EDUCATE yourself and never give up.. Just wanted to share that

I heard the other day that Natalie Cole is on dilalysis.. due to drugs and alcohol so I'm not sure she'd be a good spokesman per-se.  A spokesman against drugs, certainly!

Natalie Cole was a bit flakey about her kidney  failure experience.  I don't think she'd be a good spokesperon or role model.  There has to be more people on dialysis who could "come out of the closet".

If you want someone with Name recognition it might be the Cojo guy on Entertainment Tonight?  He has had two transplants and did the talk show circuit a few months ago trying to spread the work about kidney failure.  He admitted his first kidney transplant was not as successful as it could had been due to his lifestyle but he saw the light and is now a big advocate for kidney education, taking the required meds, proper eating habits, no smoking, no drinking, etc.

All the very knowledgeable IHD members listed in the thread could keep propping him up and sending him out the door with lots of info.

I think Kelly had a good idea..spokes team ..the first 4 people mentioned....that way the speaking appearances could be split up and the writers could collaborate.
