I have been on dialysis since the first of the year.  This Friday I will do my training on the cycler!!  I am so excited about it.  They said I am a "low transporter" but the doctor is letting me give it a try anyway - I might have to do one manual exchange in the afternoon but that still beats 4 a day, don't you think?

(PS:  I figured out if I bookmark this page:  http://ihatedialysis.com/forum/index.php?www;action=unread instead of the main page, I can get all the new posts on one page)

I ended up doing my training yesterday (Monday) and last night was my first night on the cycler.  I didn't have any alarms my first night so that was nice!  My hubby is concerned about power surge - when it is running our lamp blinks.  Anyone have this problem?  I know I must have slept but it felt like I was awake quite often, looking at the machine to see what cycle I was in.

I also had some pain while draining.  Will that get better?

Glad to read your first night went alarm free.  That from what i have read doesn't seem to be the norm.  May that alarm free stuff continue for you.

As for the drainpain.  I am still pre D but have read tons.  From what i understand that should start to go away. Not sure if the Cath finds a nice home or if you just get use to it?  I wish you continued success :thumbup;

Oh and thx for the answer about <g>

My second night also went great - no alarms during the night.  I did get an alarm right before disconnecting.  It kept saying it was refilling the bag, then warming the bag and check the supply line over and over during the final fill - but the bag was empty so I had to do a bypass.

No drain pain last night or if it did, I didn't feel it cause I was asleep!!  :)

I have had that alarm ending the final fill twice in the last month, once the bag was empty and
the other time it wasn't. It took a number of attempts to get the bypass to work. I still get drainpain
during the initial drain and the first fill until it fills again.

Can you put it on a power surge protecter?

My husband has been on the cycler for a month now and has never had the drain pain.  Might mention it to your nurse so she can adjust the iniital drain.   Dave's is set to 0 initial drain so it only takes whatever it finds then switches to fill, that might be the difference if yours is looking for something there it can't find.

My PD nurse is gradually taking down the mininum on the initial drain every month. It's now set
at 2300 MLs since my regular fill is 3000. So far it has eliminated alarms for low fill on the initial drain.
She is taking it down gradually since she is concerned about being sure all the fluid is drain before the
first fill. I will there was a read out showing the final fill so that I could have an idea of what the next
initial drain will be, minus absorption during the day. I can live with the drainpain on the initial drain, but
I would rather not have it.
