I hadn't done this as of yet...here is a short version of an introduction...about time I got to this.

Diagnosed at age 11, 1974, possible cause, strep.  Glomerulonephritis.
Hemodialysis at age 15, 1978, unexpectedly.
Living donor transplant (father's), 1978, failed after six weeks, transplant removed, returned to hemo.
Deceased donor transplant, 1981, lasted 18 years to the day, returned to treatment, hemodialysis, 1999 transplant removed.
Home Nocturnal Hemodialysis, 2000, then to In-center Nocturnal Hemodialysis to present.

Admin for IHateDialysis 2008 - 2014, retired.
Jenna is our daughter, bad bladder damaged her kidneys.
Was on in-center hemodialysis 2003-2007.
7 yr transplant lost due to rejection.
She did PD Sept. 2013 - July 2017
Found a swap living donor using social media, friends, family.
New kidney in a paired donation swap July 26, 2017.

 :welcomesign;  I'm sorry you've had so much experience with ESRD and transplants but I'm glad you're here so we can benefit from some of those experiences.  Hopefully you'll get support and information from us also.

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Lost vision due to retinopathy 12/2005, 30 Laser Surg 2006
ESRD diagnosed 12/2006
03/2007 Fantastic Eye Surgeon in ND got my sight back and implanted lenses in both eyes, great distance & low reading.
Gortex 4/07.  Started dialysis in ND 5/4/2007
Gortex clotted off Thanksgiving Week of 2007, was unclotted and promptly clotted off 1/2 hour later so Permacath Rt chest.
3/2008 move to NC to be close to children.
2 Step fistula, 05/08-elevated 06/08, using mid August.
Aug 5, 08, trained NxStage and Home on 9/3/2008.
Fistulagram 09/2008. In hospital 10/30/08, Bowel Obstruction.
Back to RAI-Latrobe In Center. No home hemo at this time.

It must have been very difficult being 15 and being on dialysis and then having your dad's kidney fail within 6 weeks.  You must be a very strong person with a positive outlook to get through that! My daughter will be 15 this month and has been on dialysis for 16 months, but has felt crappy for about 6 years.  Her dad and Aunt and several others have been rejected as donors.  I am blood type A and she is B so I can't donate, but my daughter is also a very strong person and we are hoping to find her a kidney this year.  Any advice on staying positive throughout those terrible teens years while dealing with a chronic illness is greatly appreciated. 

I hope that you get a lifetime kidney soon. Thanks for joining the group. :grouphug;

Nov 5, 2008 - Received living donor transplant from my sister-in-law, Etta.
