Sadly, Steve Irwin, The Crocodile Hunter has been killed by a Stingray fish

He brought the wonderful world of wildlife into our homes and taught people about their beauty and wonder, particularly reptiles.

My heart goes out to his wife Terri and their children, Bindi and Bob

I cant believe it, Steve Irwin has gone, but he will never be forgotten. Today is a very sad day for all Australians, Steve was the quintessential 'Aussie', full of humour, a great love of animals and a fantastic lust for life. We put right up there with Elvis and Princess Di - We'll always remember where we were when you left us!! All our thoughts go to the wonderful family you have left behind, may they carry on your legacy Steve.

RIP Steve, you will be missed.

Nah it was a sting ray... There has only ever been 3 attacks in Australia that were deadly. They are not usually violent, but it must of felt threatened by Steve.

It was a very touching experience watching him in an interview with Larry King.  I just loved to hear him speak.  He lived excitement and wonder and appreciation of nature!

It is so sad, he was great.  And I thought it was sweet that he clearly loved his kids so much, that was nice to see.  But, if you're going to go, that's how I'd like to do it, doing something that I love.

It really is a loss, he did a great job.

Here is a link to one of the better written articles I have read about this.  After having read them all it sounds like he got too close and the stingray felt boxed in by Steve and his cameraman.  It did what any cornered animal would do and took the fight or flight stance and struck.

In my opinion the man was fantastic.  I couldn't wait to watch the next show and would make sure I could see every episode.  Though like most people I agree that what he did for a living was kinda crazy, he opened the world of wildlife to millions of people worldwide.  The efforts he has made to help preserve wildlife and educate us about it will never be reached again.  I am deeply saddened by his death, and send my most heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
