Becky

WWW
« on: January 24, 2009, 01:20:18 PM »

Hello all!  My name is Becky and I am a Christian, homeschooling mom from Alabama.  My boys, William and Jonathan, are ages 8 and 6.  I first learned I had PKD in 2005.  My mom has PKD and is on dialysis also (hemo).  I have had other cousins and an aunt with PKD.

In October 2008 I learned that my kidney function was to the point that dialysis was imminent.  Those fiirst couple of months were rough as I figured out what I needed to do in order to continue to homeschooling the boys.  PD seemed like a great option for me.  I had the catheter placement surgery on Dec 10th of 08 and started my training the last day of the year.  My first day of PD at home was January 13th - not quite two weeks ago.

I am beginning to get in a routine  but it is still all very new to me.  I'm still learning how to get my bags heated at the right temperature (and not too hot) with a heating pad and trying to get a good routine going so that I'm not up all hours of the night (I go to bed early!).  I am looking forward to getting to know you guys.

Welcome to our community, Becky!  I am very impressed with homeschooling mothers.  I would love to do it, but I don't think I have the discipline it would require. [Can't believe a highschool teacher is saying that, right!]  anyway, you made a good choice when you decided to join us.  this is a great place for information, support and even fun.  Keep reading and keep posting, letting us know how things are going with you.  Let us get to know you and your family.  We have a thread where you can post pictures.   Remember, this is more than a website, it is a genuine family :grouphug;
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Becky, I'm a fellow Christian and am so glad you found us.  Are you doing manual exchanges?  Look into the night time cycler.

 :welcomesign;  Becky!    I am from Huntsville, Alabama but just recently moved to TN but I was wondering what part of AL do you live in?  I hope you make lots of friends here at IHD, it has become like a family to me!   :cuddle;

Glad you found this site.  You must have your hands full with doing PD and trying to do homeschooling.

Hope you get that routine worked out soon and things go smoothly for you.

I am an IHD member, also from Alabama, who has PKD, been on dialysis, and now have a kidney transplant.  Have you considered getting on the transplant list at the University of Alabama in Birmingham?
