My mom has been on dialysis for the past 4years. She was born with Brights disease and her kidneys have slowly shut down. She has had 2 kidney transplants and the last 1 lasted 16 years and just failed again in Feb of 2005. Since then her health has slowly deteriorated. Due to her kidney failure she then had congestive heart failure and had heart surgery in 2005 also. Lets just say since then my family and I have had a up hill battle with this horrible disease. We have had countless visits to the Er and she has been in the hospital now more times then I can count. She has Been shocked 2 times due to high potassium and at one point coded. She also has very low blood pressure and due to that passed out the broke her pelvis in 3 places.You name she has been on it, she tried at home hemo which didn't work for her, PT at home-then got an infection in the catheter so she stopped that, she has had more then one graph fail and clot. She now has a temporary cath in her chest and does hemo at the clinic.She has fought though though and is the strongest person I have ever met.I'm just touching the surface of what we all have been through. I guess I have come here for guidance, advise, and support. I also hopefully can offer some advise also due to the fact we have been through just about everything and anything.My mom is only in her early 50's and its hearbreaking to me, to see what she goes through on a daily basis. My Dad and I sit at the hospital and sometimes feel like only people that have to go through this all the time and I know by joining this group I will learn I'm definitely not alone, and get help. It will be nice to meet people that can relate to our situation.

Welcome, I am new here too.  I have been sick for a long time now, so I feel for your mother.  I hope we find what we need here.  *smile* I have a feeling we will.  Good luck

 :welcomesign; shan22.  You've definitely found the best place in cyberspace for support and information and it sounds (unfortunately) that you'll have much to pass on to us too.  I'm so sorry that your Mom and your entire family have been having to deal with all the complications and nastiness of ESRD.  She's lucky to have your support and love.   :cuddle;

After reading your intro I just can't write much.  I would have quit a long time ago if I were her!!  But, she must love her family very much.  Best of luck to all of you.  I know you will find support here.

Welcome to our community!  So sorry to hear all that your mom has had to go through.  We are contemporaries, your mom and I (in my late fifties).  I am glad that she has the support of her family as she goes through these challenges.  Now you also have the support of the IHD family.  :grouphug;  Please take advantage of all this site has to offer.  Keep reading and keep posting. Let us know how your mom is doing.
Looking forward to hearing from you. :flower;

 :welcomesign;  The love for your Mother is marvelous.  She raised a very compassionate child.  Your love and care means so much to her (I am also your Moms age).  I hope we can be a support for you.  There are many caregivers here and they understand how painful it is to watch someone you love deal with kidney failure. We are all here for you.  Please keep posting.  Take care of yourself during all of this.   :grouphug;

Well I am not your Mother's age, in fact I am 75 years old.  I also have not been on the road your Mom's on yet.  I am not on dialysis yet and am beginning to hope the grim reaper will get
me before I am to that point.  There is much to learn and benefit from at this site.  Hope things will get better for your Mom and tell her she is in my heart and prayers.

Love, Mimi[

Hi Shan and  :welcomesign;

Sorry to hear what your mom has been through.  She must be a very strong person.  I can only hope I will be as strong as she is when my time comes.  I am still predialysis.  Like Mimi, I hope to live my life to the end before dialysis.  I hope you find the support you need here.  It is wonderful that you are such a support for your mom.
God bless,
