Hi everyone,

I am 44 years old, married with 2 children, one son 24, and a daughter 12.  Plus 2 dogs, 4 cats, and a sulphur-crested cockatoo.  Nothing like unconditional love, they accept you on your good and bad days - no matter how bad you look or feel.  I would be lost without them.  My husband however that is another story.  >:D  There are several fish tanks around the house which are soothing to watch, but that is my husband's hobby.

I have been on home dialysis for 2 years officially this Christmas, - it was one hell of a Christmas present 2 years ago.  Although I have only been a dialysis patient for 2 years, I have been a lifetime renal failure patient.  So I knew this was coming it was just a matter of when.

I am looking forward to corresponding with other people, sharing experiences as some days even just looking at my dialysis machine i feel utter comtempt, borderline hate for it.  But then it is a necessary evil, and down deep (I mean real deep) I mean abyss type deep  :Kit n Stik;- I am eternally grateful that it is there.

Happy to have found this forum, and looking forward to learning, chatting and sharing.

g'day moonshadow22 and welcome :) Sounds like you share a few frustrations with a number of us. Happy upcoming dialysisversary I guess. I'm just coming up on 2.5 years in centre. blech...

Hi and welcome great to see another Aussie here , I live in country NSW but currently staying in Sydney after a transplant , i did home dialysis for 18 months before my sister donated her kidney to me 5 weeks ago . hope to hear more from you

Lost vision due to retinopathy 12/2005, 30 Laser Surg 2006
ESRD diagnosed 12/2006
03/2007 Fantastic Eye Surgeon in ND got my sight back and implanted lenses in both eyes, great distance & low reading.
Gortex 4/07.  Started dialysis in ND 5/4/2007
Gortex clotted off Thanksgiving Week of 2007, was unclotted and promptly clotted off 1/2 hour later so Permacath Rt chest.
3/2008 move to NC to be close to children.
2 Step fistula, 05/08-elevated 06/08, using mid August.
Aug 5, 08, trained NxStage and Home on 9/3/2008.
Fistulagram 09/2008. In hospital 10/30/08, Bowel Obstruction.
Back to RAI-Latrobe In Center. No home hemo at this time.

Pyelonephritis (began at 8 mos old)
Home haemo 1980-1985 (self-cannulated with 15 gauge sharps)
Cadaveric transplant 1985
New upper-arm fistula April 2008
Uldall-Cook catheter inserted May 2008
Haemo-dialysis, self care unit June 2008
(2 1/2 hours X 5 weekly)
Self-cannulated, 15 gauge blunts, buttonholes.
Living donor transplant (sister-in law Kathy) Feb. 2009
First failed kidney transplant removed Apr.  2009
Second trx doing great so far...all lab values in normal ranges

Uninterrupted in-center (self-care) hemodialysis since 1982 -- 34 YEARS on March 3, 2016 !!

No transplant.  Not yet, anyway.  Only decided to be listed on 11/9/06. Inactive at the moment.  ;)
I make films.

Just the facts: 70.0 kgs. (about 154 lbs.)
Treatment: Tue-Thur-Sat   5.5 hours, 2x/wk, 6 hours, 1x/wk
Dialysate flow (Qd)=600;  Blood pump speed(Qb)=315
Fresenius Optiflux-180 filter--without reuse
Fresenius 2008T dialysis machine
My KDOQI Nutrition (+/ -):  2,450 Calories, 84 grams Protein/day.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome,  just still looking around at the site at the moment, learning how it works and getting the feel of things.  Please excuse me for any mistakes or errors I make.  I live in Queensland, and at the moment we are presently in the process of moving.  We are moving only a few suburbs away, but, as I am hooked up to my "faithful friend" every 2nd day for 5 hours - life is a little bit hectic at the moment.  Hopefully in about a months time, will be able to spend more time raving and ranting.  This is wonderful site and I have a lot of reading to catch up on. :thx;
