Dialysis center holds memorial service for lost patients

DESOTO COUNTY -- Da Vita Dialysis will hold a memorial service for patients who passed away in 2007.

The memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, outside at the institution's rose garden.

"This is the first year we're doing this, but we're going to make it an annual tradition," said Sherry Jefferies, facility administrator at Da Vita Dialysis.

The program for the patients who passed will include speaker Ella Edwards, the pastor at Ivy Chapel. Family and friends of the patients are welcome and encouraged to attend.

"For every patient that passes we donate $50 to the Kidney Trust Fund, which helps educate the public on dialysis," said Jefferies.

Winn Dixie, Wal-Mart and JJ's Transportation are sponsoring the service. Personal donations from the families have also been given to help set up the memorial.

"We had seven patients pass away last year and this memorial service is for them," said Jefferies.
