Planning for the future – We need an advertising program focusing on the risks of over consumption

I really feel its near time for national advertising campaigns similar to what we have for cigarettes focusing on the side effects of an uncontrolled diet.  Maybe we cannot help people who already are on the path to dialysis but within a generation or two we could significantly change how people look at consumption and help tomorrows children be educated to make better choices on diet and drink.

We have seen this work before on recycling, cigarettes, not tossing trash on the side of the road....

And I'm not saying we need more diabetes awareness and the like, we need to put the scare in people.  I support people who want to acknowledge their bodies and say big can be beautiful but we also need people (kids) to know the risks and how small lifestyle changes can decrease the risk for devastating side effects early in life.

I think there needs to be more responsible parents who will take the time to feed their kids and make sure they get outside to play for the fresh air and exercise. I know plenty of parents who work full-time and yet spend all their available free time focusing on their kids. When the neighbors upstairs moved out, I saw them bring out a child's bicycle and put it on their truck. Not once did I ever see them take that child out to ride the bike, let alone to run and play so needless to say, I was shocked and torn to see the little bike. And sad to say, she got very pudgy over the years they lived here and quick. I find that profoundly sad and a little angering but we don't need companies, tv, media or govt telling parents to do right by their kids. They should want to. That is the responsibility of being a parent. As for adults, they choose to go down the wrong path then they will answer for it. Or should answer for it.

Most Parents are so busy with their jobs and just living they fail to realize just how much LESS physical activity they are doing.  We get a drivers license and SIT DOWN.  Get a job and SIT DOWN. Get home after work and SIT DOWN in front of the TV.  We are spending far more time sitting than we are MOVING.  Then they are telling the kids to SIT DOWN, shut up, play your game, as the game is replacing TV as 'The Great Pacifier". So now the children are learning to SIT DOWN.   NO ONE is out and about, burning calories.  know wonder we are rapidly becoming a Nation of obese people.

I should talk, I am SITTING in front of my computer!

But most of this week while the weather was half decent, and while I wasn't in the Dialysis Chair, I was out in our yard raking up last Falls leaves that I failed to get back then.  I SERIOUSLY need the exercise.
