After trying to return to work without much success, I am out of work again. I cannot work full time and get enough sleep. I tried for several months but found that I was falling asleep at the wheel on the way home. I tried to get some work from home days or part time work, but my employer says it's full time or nothing.
Now how to survive on disability? That is the question.
I have stopped crying and my mood is a little better. I am just glad that I have my Ruth for kitteh therapy.

Mikey I'm so sorry to hear this. I really hope you can eventually find something part-time or some other solution. :cuddle;
-
Do a search for "homeshoring". There are several opportunities to work at home. Also check odesk.com
-
Spend your time looking into retraining programs. Talk to the local colleges, welfare offices, adult education centers. Check with the American Association of Kidney Patients. Ask at the other patients and social worker what others are doing.
Mike you will be amazed at how little it takes to live once you decide you don't need all the toys and stuff.
Dial up? Forget it. No computer at all. Go to the library and use theirs. Turn the heat way down and turn off the cool air. No junk food. Sell all but one car. Use a bike whenever you can. Forget the Hawaii vacation.
All that stuff can come back after your find your way back into the work force.
My income went down by 2/3. Read that again. By looking at every penny before it went out of the house I made it work.
This is in fact an opportunity. You will now get paid for being a dialysis patient. You'll be "working" say 15 hours a week at being a patient and you can study when "working". Go back to school and get that degree or certificate.
Go for it my man.

I'm sure you will find something soon Mike. :grouphug;

Go get on disability first. You cannot get on if you are working AT ALL.... So go do that and then they allow you to work and make up to 940?? dollars per month. It still sucks, but it helps.
Best of luck. I wish you the best.

I am so sorry you have to suffer through all this. It is so unfair. I hope this resolves itself soon.

I know exactly how you feel Mikey! I had my transplant in June and was cleared to go back to work in August. I have been applying for jobs and nothing yet. I am being a little picky because I don't want just anything... I want a career, but I thought it would be easy for me to get a job because of my excellent work history (I'm 36 and I was at my last job for 15 years!)..... huh, that's what I get for thinking! If I don't get a 'career' soon I will have to take what I can get.
Orange County Ca has some great advice.... I live in Texas, and because of my kidney failure, DARS (Dept. of Assistive and Rehabilitative Svc.) would pay for me to go back to college. I don't really want to do that.... but it is an option.
Best of luck to you!

You will get through this!!!! there will be another door opening keep positve!!! :bandance;

I know the feeling only too well. I was out of work since June, when all my tutoring ended for the summer and my job at the tourist board was finished. Thankfully, my daughter is looking after the household. But it is not a pleasant feeling.
But, this too shall pass. things do work out somehow. :cuddle;

Thanks for the support everyone. It really helps.
I am looking to move closer to my sister. Apartments are less expensive there as it is about 45 minutes further away from NYC. (The rule in NJ/PA is: the closer you are to NYC, the more you pay for housing.) I hope to find a small apartment very close to my sister as I don't have to worry about commuting now. Then I can spend more time with family. I will update everyone here once I find a new place.

I've been thinking about you a lot lately Mikey. Here's hoping you find what you need without too much hassle.
-
Good Luck. It helps if we have family to be with.

I just read this. So sorry to hear about the job loss. I think there is some good advice from other members regarding living with less income and on applying for disability pay. I hope you find a solution that works for you and Ruth. :grouphug;

I really miss both Mikey and the Queen herself. Hurry back you two. :cuddle;

Sorry I've been out of touch. I was in the hospital for 8 days. I got depressed and was looking at the pills in the cabinet... instead of taking them, I put myself into the hospital. I had previously discontinued my CCPD and medications. It took a week to get me on antidepressants and back onto peritoneal dialysis.
I am feeling better and am reunited with her royal highness, Queen Ruth.
-
Man, Mikey I've missed seeing you on here and I'm so very sorry to hear what a tough time you've been having. I'm so glad that you decided to get to the hospital. I'm giving you the biggest hug right here, right now.

Mikey & The Queen
where are you going to live
and how are you doing
and who took care of The Queen in your absence
-
I am doing okay. Thanks for asking. My new medications make me dizzy, so no driving far until they adjust them. Queen Ruth is excellent. The neighbor downstairs attempted to attend to her needs in my absence. We are looking for a small place near my sister in the Poconos. (NE PA)
I will let you all know once I find a new home. :thx;
