Title: Hello...
Post by: kaci on September 14, 2008, 05:26:36 PM
Hi, I'm Kaci, 26, married to Jeb, 29, and we have a 14m old son. Jeb was diagnosed with Henoch-Schonlein purpura as a pre-teen and has had decreasing kidney function ever since. He has managed to avoid dialysis thus far and it's the plan to go with a pre-emptive transplant. We think we have identified a donor (my step-mother) and hopefully Jeb will be having his tx lat OHSU late this month or early next if no new roadblocks get thrown up in our path.

Glad to be here, it's proving to be a great wealth of information. Anyway, the 14m old is sure he needs my attention MUCH worse than this silly computer, lol.

:welcomesign;   We are glad you joined.  There is a lot of information about pre-emptive transplants and donor evaluations --see the Transplant thread.  Ask any questions you may have. There are many here with transplants and probably even more that are waiting on the list.  We'll keep thinking good thoughts for all to go well for you husband and his potential donor.

:welcomesign;  and Congratulations on a possible transplant for your husband!  I pray you don't run into roadblocks either.  So far I've had three potential donors tested and denied.  It's a tough road, but it's drivable.  :)

Welcome to IHD Kaci,

When your son goes to bed you can join us at anytime. Give Jeb a IHD  :grouphug; from everyone here. I hope the transplant comes through before dialysis is needed. Don't be alarmed if they put a catheter in anyway, as an emergency access until the transplanted kidney is functioning as expected. It will be nice to get to know you and your family so check back often and post as often as you like.

:welcomesign; Kaci.  I'm glad you found IHD and those of us who spend a fair bit of time here.  All the best with the transplant for Jeb.

Welcome  Kaci, good to have you aboard.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

We're very lucky that Jeb's neph has been very pro-active in getting him to the operating room before he needs dialysis, but he has had a surgical consult for having his cath/port placed (he intends to do PD if it comes to it) so if his numbers drop enough he can just go right in and get it.

And we've had several donors excluded already. My DSM has a few more tests to undergo because the originals were not done well. If she doesn't work out, I'm up next. That would be much more complicated, though.

 :thx; again.

Welcome, and good luck with the tx work. As  a 33 year old dialyzor who is still working to remain active, I would also encourage you to look at home hemo extended therapy, which is done overnight like the  PD, but has much better rates of dialysis, and can also pull more stuff like phosphorus.  I have found it to work while raising kids.
