My sweet little Paxton, 5, was playing outside yesterday. Her brother told her she had something on her foot and "it" immediately bite her. It left two very distinct puncture marks and started turning red. It really looked like a snake bite. But Zeke kept telling us it wasn't a snake, it was a bug. After researching and making calls, we found she was bite by a black widow spider. Doctor told her Mommy what to watch for, especially the second day. It isn't as poisonous as a brown recluse spider and fortunately, she doesn't seem to be extremely allergic to the venom. It was scary. We have seen Black widows before; they are native to our area. Whenever a tropical storm or hurricane comes through, many critters are displaced and are more active. Just a very weird experience. She will have a good story to tell someday. Her brother drew us a picture of what he saw; he did a good job and helped to confirm the bite. Clever little guy.

Yes, they can be really dangerous. The doctor gave Melissa a list of things to look for. Muscle cramps and lose of muscle control was high on the list. Poor little thing, she screamed when it happened. But, now 48 hours later, she is doing good. Swelling is almost gone. Just those ugly fang marks are left!
