Hey all
The big day is tomorrow morning at 7:30 and we're thinking positive and happy thoughts while we wait. They'll take him down to CCICU around 6 am and do the preping down there, I'll be able to be with him until they take him into surgery. We're having company from out of state coming around midnight who are meeting me down at the hospital--we're just gonna throw a little party in the room until they take him down--ha!! :)
The heart doc was in this morning and after reviewing both tests he had, he said there IS a valve that will need to be bypassed, so it could end up being an 11 hour surgery!! My ride will be here in about an hour and I'll be staying the night with my man so we can be alone before his brother gets here later tonite. The other day I layed down in the bed with him and one of his docs came in his room with a sour look on his face, like I shouldn't be in bed with him. We were just watching tv!! old sour puss--I don't have time for people like that, I just got up and sat in my chair while he was in there, when he was gong I was back in bed with my Mikey. :) Everyone needs a cuddle once in a while and it's been a very long while since I've had one, so I say; :sir ken;
Please keep those good thoughts coming our way. I know the hardest part for me tomorrow will be all the worrying I know I will be doing while they're working on him. They will be using a pig valve to replace his damaged mirtal valve, remove the vegetation and they'll take a vein/artery? from his leg and use it to bypass an artery in a different place in his heart, lots of work ahead for the teams of doctors!!
I'll update when I can.

Once again, my man proved his doctors wrong and made it through the surgery yesterday and did really good!! He's in CVICU--got that wrong the other day--for the next few days and probably be moved to another room. He is in a lot of pain today though and I only saw him for about 20 minutes. HIs nurse thought it best if we left him to her today, it seemed like he was more distressed when we were there. She told me the chest tube causes a lot of the pain and when they pull it tomorrow, he will be hurting less. It's got to be horrible sawing through the sternum though, I mean DAMN!! That's thick bone there!! I'm told that it isn't that bad and my friends' mother told me the same thiing when she had hers done, she was surprised how much it didn't hurt.
I was telling my mom yesterday that I am glad he got the endocarditis, because they never would have fixed his heart otherwise. He was diagnosed with CHF and cardiomyopathy over a year ago and I know those don't go away, but still his heart is in much better shape than it was before. Plus he won't fill up with fluid like he was doing since they replaced that mitral valve, which was leaking bad. We knew about that blocked artery all this time and they couldn't fix it because of his renal failure and the surgery was very "risky" for him and it was 90% blocked at that time. So now you guys understand why I'm sort of glad he got this infection.
They want him to cough and take deep breaths and have a rolled up sheet he cuddles to his chest to help. He's trying to cough but it's pretty hard for him right now and I'm hoping tomorrow will be better. He's already had pnemonia just last month, so he's REALLY got to keep his lungs clear!!
Like I said before, he's one tough 'ol hippy and this isn't the first time he's been close to that edge. God must have plans for him, I know He knows I still need him here with me!! :)
..........and YES, I can feel your arms all wrapped around me as I went through this hell again. Thanks so much for all your support and friendship, it means a lot to me.

Excellent news Marley!
Pain is a very individual thing, no one's experience is quite the same as anyone else's. I hope his pain diminishes quickly and he heals and comes home to you feeling better than ever.

I remember the coughing my husband had to do after he had a kidney removed. That was the worse part for him but it passed pretty quickly.

Good morning everyone
So much has happened in the last few weeks that I started making a daily journal since my hubby's surgery on Tuesday. Wednsday was a total pain day, Thursday they were worried about the weakness in his left leg so ordered a CT scan to rule out a stroke---no stroke--but his leg continued to be weak and more painful than the day before, plus it was very cold and blotchy looking and a little swollen. They did a doplar and he wasn't getting any blood flow to his foot!! They told us the possibilities of what that could mean, from calcified arteries to a blood clot. Turned out he had a large blood clot by his groin! They removed it last night after dinner, we went down to see him. Aside from being VERY confused, he was in a lot less pain and all is well again. Doncha just love happy endings?? ME TOO!!!
He's been in CVICU since Tuesday and they tell me they will transfer him to the physical therapy rehab ward. He could be there up to a month!! He doesn't know that and I don't want to be the one to tell him eiether. Once he feels better, he wants OUT OF THERE asap!! But he is too weak for them to feel comfortable to go home just yet and want to build up his strength. I wonder if they know I've got RA and other bone/joint problems and am not very strong myself??
Mikey's brother is leaving today and I'll have my house back to myself again. I love him dearly but it's nice to be able to run around the house in jammies--and no bra--can you relate ladies?? lol
I got the chance to see his surgeon yesterday morning and I thanked him for doing this heart surgery and giving my man a chance!! When he gets feeling better, we'll talk about changing cardiologists. I didn't like the way he had no hope for my man, even after I told him how sick he's been in the past and always pulls through. We want a doctor who believes in us, ya know?
You guys have been incredibilly supportive and have helped me through another dark time, THANK YOU!!!!

Good news! No PT, help with his care and the house! You deserve any and all help you can get right now. What an incredible time you have had. You both have such wonderful inner strength and give each other support and care. I hope things smooth out now and you can regain some kind of "normalcy" in your home. And there is nothing better than being in your home, in your pajamas, braless!! Wooo-Hoooooooo You two are a real inspiration :grouphug;
