we do cats and dogs ----- why not kids------- any kids, you ever knew or yourself as a kid
I was thinking about this when I was posting on the empty nest post
Allen was about three years old. We were at my sister-in-laws, who is a horrible cook. She was making something to eat for herself. I made sure Allen would not be hungry before we got there and it was not the time of day for a meal. She had taken all her leftovers from the night before and mixed them together and placed them in a cassorole. (mashed potatoes, carrots, peas, green beans and chopped up ham) I told her Allen is not hungry and he said he was---- she placed a bowl of this in front of him and he looked at it and threw up on it. We still laugh about it and so does she.
Stasie was four and we had to prepare her that Missy would probably die and go be with Baby Jesus in Heaven. Missy had a diraphamic hernia and was the closest thing to death in the neno-natal unit. We took her to visit Missy in the unit. All the nurses and docs had on white and we walked thru these big doors and it was full of light. Stasie started looking around and we asked what was she doing. She said she was looking for Baby Jesus, she thought we were in Heaven visiting Missy.
Missy has pkd and one lung but you would never know it--- dances, cheerleader, basketball
Missy won a candy selling fund raiser when she was in Kindgaraten, my husband took boxes and boxes of candy and sold them at his basketball games. He worked so hard so Missy could win and go eat at a Pizza place and get a ride in a limo. I think he sold a total of 19 boxes.
The newspaper interview Missy and she said she won with a little help from her dad.

When Jenna was in first grade she came home very upset that other kids said there was no Santa Claus. She was determined to prove otherwise. On Christmas Eve I noticed she had hidden our video camera on the sofa between some pillows and left it running, hoping to catch "whoever brought the gifts" in the act. After she went to sleep we paused the camera (luckily she didn't know how to set the clock on it) and got ready to film. I had a white glove from cotillion and my husband put that on. We wrapped a red and white Santa hat around his lower arm to look like a sleeve. When we began filming I jingled sleigh bells off in the kitchen as he clomped in boots into the living room, just out of the view of the camera. He reached down and moved the pillow, showing his sleeve and gloved hand in on the video, then shut it off. He wrote a note that said "Sorry, no pictures. Love, Santa" and left it next to the cookies he ate. The next day Jenna reviewed the tape and was thrilled with what she had captured. I think she had every kid from 3 blocks around in and out of our living room that next day, viewing the tape on our VCR. It was pretty convincing.

Marvin and I have no kids of our own, but plenty of nieces and nephews.
My sister's oldest son, Zach, has always been one of my favorites. When Zach was a toddler and just learning to talk, we were all at my parents' for the week-end. At that time, he was the only grandchild in our family (neither my brother nor I have kids); Zach's brother was born three years later (yes, my parents only have two grandchildren -- three kids, but only 2 in the next generation). Anyway, all of us had been working all week-end to get Zach to say our names. "That's Uncle Garry --- Unnnnccllllllle Garrrrrrrrrry. Say it, Zach........ Where's Uncle Marvin? Call him --- Un-cle Mar-vin!" No luck! Zach just smiled and laughed at us. Zach's dad (my brother-in-law) had taken him outside to ride his tricycle, and when they came back in the house, Marvin had fallen asleep in my dad's recliner. Marvin snores really, really loud, and when Ken and Zach came back in the house, Zach heard his Uncle Marvin snoring and tottled over the chair (he was just learning to walk really good, too). So, Ken says to Zach, "Who is that, Zach?" (of course, hoping that Zach would say, "Uncle Marvin.") And Zach let out the biggest belly-laugh, touched Marvin's arm, and said, "It's a BEAR !"
To Zach and his brother Tyler, Marvin has always been called simply "Bear." Zach, who's a junior in college and almost 20 years old, still introduces Marvin as, "My favorite uncle -- Bear."

I love the stories about what kids do. Reminds me of Candid Camera - anyone remember that? It was one of my favorite TV programs when I was a girl.
One of my husband's favorite stories is about a time he took Will into the mens room when Will was about three. They went into a stall so that Stephen could have him a little bit corralled since Will was at the running off stage. Will did his business and then Stephen changed places with him for his turn. But, he had to have his back turned. Stephen says next thing he knows he hears Will's tiny voice saying "Hey, how are you? What are you doing?" Stephen turns and sees Will lying on the floor looking up at and talking to the guy in the next stall, who is seated on the throne doing his own business. So glad I wasn't there.

My son, who is 9 1/2, has only been with us for a year, so we don't have many stories, but I do have a really cute one.
Last Christmas we went with Rob's parents, his sister and her family (her son was 3 at the time) to ride the Polar Express in North Conway, NH ( a first for all of us). Brendan still believes in Santa, but last year some of the kids in school were saying he wasn't real. So he had some doubt. After the train ride, we went up the hill to the auditorium to see Santa and listen to the reading of The Polar Express. All along, Brendan thought it was fake and that there would be a fake Santa up there. Well, when Santa came into the auditorium, everyone got real quiet and Santa (who looked very real) started to talk to a few kids here and there. He walked up to Brendan (who was sitting on Rob's lap) and said it was nice to finally see his face, that he always sleeps with the blanket up to his eyes (which Brendan really does). Well, Brendan was in complete shock and said, "You really ARE the REAL Santa!". He stood up and gave him a hug and then shook his hand. Santa then said to Rob that it was nice to see he grew up to be a nice man and that he remembered him as a little boy. Well, now Brendan was shaking because he really believed it was Santa. It was one of the most precious times I had ever witnessed (I was crying the whole time) and I was so glad to be part of this with my son (who has really had a rotten childhood up until he came to live with us). Afterwards on the train ride back, Brendan was just in absolute awe and shock at what he had seen. He truly believes that Santa does exist. The poor kid is going to be crushed when he finally finds out that Santa doesn't exist. It was a great time though and he still talks about it!

When my granddaughter was being potty-trained, it took awhile before she would poop on the toilet. So one evening when she told me she had to go poo-poo it made me very happy. :2thumbsup; I stayed in the bathroom with her and kept asking her if she had gone poop yet. Nothing for quite awhile. Finally she let out 2 little farts. We were both surprised and so I said - WHAT did you do?? She didn't know so she said I.... I.... I... I beeped! We called farts beeps for a long time after that. ;D

Many Moons Ago, I drove a School Bus. One Day a very Smart, Five Year Old, asked me, " How Old are You? " I said, " I'm Fifty Years Old, I'm a Grandma " She looked me over and said " You don't Look like a Grandma, You look like a Regular Person "
For all you Grandmas out there!

this post is so much fun to read
please do not stop with one post
add everything you can remember
we found Sad Sack when she was weeks old - she was dumped at a neighborhood store - with a boy bassett hound- my son was not in kindergarten yet - he was so excited and walked across the street to tell our friend we just found a bastard hound

My son was a great fibber (still is). He stayed at his grandma's one weekend when he was about four so that Stephen and I could have a little alone time. When we were in the car on the way home we were asking more questions about how his time with Grandma had been. He said "Fun, but she made me drink kerosene." Huh?!?!? I don't think so.... My husband still tells that story sometimes, but then always adds at the end "which is funny because when I was a kid she only let us drink gasoline!"

We were looking for a house to buy when Becca was about 5 years old. Sometimes we took the kids with us when we found something promising, to see it again before deciding. One house was pretty cool, it had a turret and curved staircase and arched windows. When we brought Becca, James and Jenna to see it we called it the House of the Seven Dwarfs. A few days later we told the kids we had bought a house. Becca asked which one and I told her it was a different house. She was upset, threw her head back and howled "But I wanted the one with the THREE DOPEYS!!"

When my granddaughter was about 2 or so she had watched Lady and the Tramp (over and over and over! :-\ ). She liked Tramp's saying - "Hey Pidge" and would repeat it several times a day. We were used to the way a 2 year old talked and understood her perfectly. My daughter was out grocery shopping with her in the cart and she said "Hey Pidge" when a lady passed by. The lady gave my daughter a dirty look and that was when my daughter realized that "Hey Pidge" sounded like "Hey b*tch" coming from her 2 year old! ;D

I laugh everytime I read this post :clap;

I love that you two went that extra mile for Jenna! It's so important to keep them believing for as long as possible. Children are happier at Christmas when they still believe. That's awsome! :yahoo; :2thumbsup;

I got divorced from my first husband in 2000 and my nieces and nephews were so confused. Well, I am very close with my sisters and one of them has 3 girls. My middle niece Brittany is my Goddaughter and we have always been super close. Well, any time we were out, Brittany (who was 8 at the time) would introduce me as her divorced Aunt/Godmother who dumped her husband :shy;. Very embarrasing, especially if we were at a restaurant and introduce me to the waitperson. When I brought Rob over to meet my sister and her family (nearly a year after I divorced), Brittany asked him if he was going to marry me because she needs a Godfather since I dumped the last one. :rofl; Now at 16 is horrified when I bring that story up. Gotta love kids! ;D

When Riley was 3, she was coloring at the table. I told her it was time to clean up and she said she didn't want to. I said, "Quite frankly, Riley, I don't care what you want, clean up your mess" She replied, "You be quiet Franklin."
The whole family now call each other Franklin when one of us is grumpy.

My son Billy was born 3 months early and had a few health problems, one of them being tongue tied, they clipped the piece of skin under the tongue, but clipped it too short. Billy had a horrible time with saying he's T's, they came out of his mouth as F's. You can imagine how embarrassed I was when I took him to the grocery store and he wanted to constantly talk about trucks. Lord I got some terrible looks back then. I still tease him about it.

many people (often those with children) seem to forget that littles have a hard time pronouncing certain sounds. i have a friend who's husband is a navel officer. when their youngest son was around 3 he would say "daddy goes bye bye on a big boat" which was fine with her because michael had trouble saying any word with a "p" in it. the "p" in any word would come out as a "t" sound. therefore "big ship" would become "big shi......." imagine saying that to the captain.

we went to Allen's first Aggie game Saturday and a kid asked Allen for his autograph

My son came home for a quick visit for fall break. It was soooo good to have him home. I thought for sure that he would want to take off in his car for distant places, but all he wanted to do was hang out with us and eat home cooking. I made chicken and dumplings and apple pie - two of his favorites. Then he was off to school again this afternoon. He has team practice tomorrow. We probably won't get to see him again until Thanksgiving.
-
my son came home the week before last for a short visit
he wanted home cooking also
we went out once b/c it was almost Stasie's birthday and he wanted to see her and he gave her a present ???
he went to the Conroe game and went to the locker room and got a standing ovation and had to make a speech
he started dating a girl from church that we have known for years
she goes to SHSU
it was so nice to see his old, brown truck outside

When my son was 2 or 3, we were sat in the lounge when he asked if he could have a drink, knowing that there were some cartons at the bottom of the fridge I thought I would give him a bit of Independence and told him he could go and get a drink out of the fridge. Well he was very quite for a few minutes so I looked behind to see my son at the back of the room drinking a can of my beer that he had found in the fridge.
