Well I started my traing on July 14 and they delivered the machine on August 14 and I have done 3 treatments here at home and it has been great. My wife is usually here when I start up just in case I need a hand with anything but it has been smooth sailing so far. It sure is nice to be able to pick a time when to dialize and not have to drive to the hospital.

That's great Jay. Do you feel any different physically? It will be interesting to see what your labs are like later on. :waving;
-
glad to hear it went well. :flower;
-
:clap; That's excellent news Jay. The flexibility can really be a huge bonus.
-
more power to you :thumbup;

Great news! :bandance; :bandance;
Just keep on keeping on, and keep on filling us in on how it is going.

:yahoo; Jay!! Glad things went well. Hubby will be 2 years doing home hemo in Oct.
-
So glad to hear home dialysis is working for you. It definitely allows for a great deal more flexibility.

Glad home hemo is working for you, I wanted to go that route, unfortunately there were insurance issues.
-
I'm still planning on going home hemo as soon as I get my differences worked out with NxStage. I'm glad yours is working well.
-
I start training with NX stage in November. All is set and they are going to work with my schedule. Also i will be learning how to stick myself over the next few months.
-
Good for you Kitkatz. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

My Marvin has been on home hemo (NxStage) since July of 2007. It's been great -- hope your experience is a good one, too.
-
Jay - isn't it great to have control over when you dialyze, and how much?! I'm so glad it is working for you. In my opinion, if you have to dialyze - home hemo is the way to go!

Yup I love it, and I should find out in a week or two if I will be accepted into the nocturnal study, not that I want to do nocturnal, I would much prefer short hour, but that part of the study dosen't have space so I am told until next year. I do have extra supplies at home so if I felt that I needed an extra run I could do it but so far I am just doing the M,W,F.
-
Jay, if you don't mind me saying so, you'll feel so much better on nocturnal. It's much better for your body as well and you won't have to waste time during your day to schedule it in....
-
Carson I am starting to think the same thing. I wanted to do the short hour 5 to 6 times a week but I think between the set up and clean up that is going to make a 2 hour session turn into a 3.5 hour session if not a bit longer. But I met with my neph on Thurs and first of all I still don't know if I have been accepted into the frequent dialysis study and he asked me to at least give nocturnal a try for 1 month and if I don't like it then I can switch to short hour. I have a problem sleeping so that is also a concern for me with nocturnal and there are so "other" issues I have with have to be hooked up all night. We will see what happens.
-
I had briefly thought about nocturnal but those places are just too far for me to drive with gas prices what they are now.
-
I will be doing it at home.

You've gotta try it!! I used to have trouble sleeping - restless legs, insomnia, tossing and turning but now I sleep really well. (I think the hum of the machine helps!) I do it for 8 hours 7 days per week but that's not the program for everyone. I know a girl who does it 3 on 1 off, another 2 on 1 off. The doc will tell you what's best. You want to avoid washout and burnout. If I feel a little burnt out or I have a party to attend or work early, I just skip the night. But only one night! I am addicted to hemo. I love how I feel. I love how I look. And as far as the other goes, set everything up early and hook up afterwards! I don't miss a thing on this new machine of mine! I am truly blessed!!! :beer1;

:thumbup; Glad it's working for you carson. :waving;

:clap; Glad its working for you carson. Hubby does the 3 nights on 1 night off then 2 nights on and a night off. Great thing about being home is that you an set your own schedule. Sometimes hubby does 4 nights in a row or he does 2 nights on , a night off then 2 nights on a night off. Depends on what we have planned. We try to do it so that he has Monday night and Thurs nights off during the school year (I'm a teacher). Summer we are a lot more flexable. Usually want at least one night off on the weekend in the summer.

So true, Del. I love the flexability of home nocturnal hemo. I'm looking forward to a weekend away with my hubby. It's been 10 yrs since we've had any type of vacation. We thought we'd start small and see how it goes.
