I meet with a vascular surgeon on Wednesday. I have PKDand have known for 30 years this day was coming. I'm 57. My mother had PKD and was an early transplant patient (1968) in California. She died less than a year later from cancer. I have two first cousins who both have/had cancer. One died and the other is under treatment. Many on my father's side have or had cancer. Because of this, I've decided not to even pursue transplant. I am anxious about dialysis, but feel better about it than the other option for me. Everyone's feelings are different. I'm not sure if I'm the only to come to this choice, but its the one I made.

Hi, dkerr, and welcome to IHD! I'm sorry to hear you and your family have been through so much with both PKD and cancer. I also have family members with PKD and have come to this community to exchange information, learn, and to have fun, too. You seem to have given a great deal of thought to your health care plan, and I am sure your perspective will be appreciated here. I hope to see you posting often.
Your dog is adorable! :2thumbsup;

Welcome to our community! So glad that you found us. This is just the place for anyone facing the kind of challenge that you are. Here is loads of information, tons of support, bales of fun! And when you need a place to rant, vent or rage, a cybershoulder or a cyberhug, this is the place. In fact we are a bona fide family :grouphug; Please read as much as you can and post as much as you can. Please let us know how you are doing on HD. That is the only option here where I live (British Virgin Islands)
I notice that we are contemporaries. As I have said many times on this forum, a friend told me that the 1950's marked the end of good people!!
Looking forward to hearing from you. :flower;

Welcome! One of my four-legged roommates is a yorkie mix. I think yorkie-poo, but since he's from a rescue, I don't know for sure.

Thanks for fixing Benson for me. We love our pups. I also have a shitzu named Gabby, and she's gotten old and grumpy ... more like Clara in the old commercials for Burger King ... "where's the beef"? She makes an unholy noise when she wants and really gives Benson a run for his money.
-
Thanks for that photo of Benson. A real cutie.

:welcomesign; dkerr, I have also PKD, and I'm doing HD since december last year. You'll feel a lot better once on dialysis.
How was your appointment with the vascular surgeon? I had my AV fistula done in august last year and it's working fine.

:welcomesign; happy to meet you and your cutie dog! I married into a PKD family. My husband had a kidney transplant in May and both of his brothers are watching their kidney function steadily decline.
