Hello!
I found this site VERY early this morning when I was up and about feeling 'headachey' due to my blood presure having gone through the roof for some reason! Hello everyone! My name's Carla and I live in Chester UK. I've been on Peritoneal dialysis for nearly two years up until about two weeks ago when after my third bout of peritonitis, the doctors removed my catheter and put in a neck line. I'm now HD-ing three times a week and finding it all a bit new and strange. Can't get used to the fact that i'm not so much in charge of my treatment as I was before!
Anyway - a bit about me, I'm 37 and on my second round of dialysis after Sidney (my first transplant at age 21) gave up the ghost in 2006. My kidneys failed originally due to glomuleronephritis which seemed to have been destroying my kidneys since I was very young and the process was so slow that no-one diagnosed it until it was too late.
I'm so happy to be here, and glad that there are lots of people in the same boat as me (well, not glad - but you know what i mean....) who get on with life in the best way possible and don't give up but who HATE dialysis!!
Carla

Welcome Carla, good to have you aboard.

Welcome Carla!! Hopefully IHD can help lower that blood pressure!!
It must be quite a change going from PD to Hemo... I'm sure there are others here who have gone down that road too and can offer advice. By all means pull up a chair and rant away!

:welcomesign; Carla. We are a great group with lots of information and support. Hope to hear more of your story. :cuddle;

:welcomesign; I think it is more like Noah's Ark than a boat! We are an interesting mix of people; some you could compare to the grizzly bear, a lovely swan, lots of monkeys, and maybe a few cookoo birds!! But we are family and we are glad you are here with us. Looking forward to hearing more from you :grouphug;

Welcome to our community! I know that you are going to find this a great place to be. Paris said it is a bit like a Noah's Ark. If so, I am the lovely swan in the group!!! So much for modesty. Really from your info I see you are going to take advantage of this site,which is now a family. :grouphug; I am historically related to you. My island home,Barbados, was a British colony at my birth, and now i am living in the British Virgin Islands (an overseas dependent territory). we also have lots of Brits here in our IHD family. So as RichardMel said, pull up a chair and rant away. we do want to hear from you (not just ranting, just telling us how you are doing)

Thank you for all the welcoming messages! It's great to know that I'm not alone, I do find that being on dialysis is a rather alienating process, especially when you are younger - it's great to get on board this particular Noah's ark and know that we're all going through similar things and that there's always a place (even if no-one reads it!) where you can vent , but also report on the good things!
xx to you all!

Hi Carla
You will be surprised at how many young people there are on this board. No.....I am not one of them but you will find plenty of members around your age and younger. Welcome aboard!!

:welcomesign; Carla. Nice to have you join us. Please post often so we can support, help and learn from each other. I too am on my second round of dialysis after a transplant that lasted over 23 years.

Welcome to the site. Be sure to put yourself in charge of your HDing otherwise they will run you ragged and dry. Find out things you need to know and question people.
