Title: Taking the plunge
Post by: Ken Shelmerdine on July 21, 2008, 05:05:31 AM
Because the weather in the UK is so unpredictable even in summer months most people in the UK take at least one vacation oversees in the sunny hotspots of the Mediterranean or North Africa. Before dialysis started two years ago Rita and I used to holiday oversees sometimes twice a year. We bought a mobile home in Wales as I wasn't confidant about traveling oversees with the Baxter cycler. Well after using it for weekend and week long  vacations over the last two years I've decided I've had enough of garbage UK weather so we've taken the plunge and booked a two week vacation in early November in Lanzarate which is one of a group Islands lying about 100 miles west off the coast of Africa  called the Canary Islands. The Baxter will go in the aircraft luggage hold at no extra cost and Baxter will deliver the PD fluid, 4 pronged cassettes and drain bags the day after we arrive at our destination.

I also went to a company that specializes in medical conditions and got a full insurance package including any emergency medical treatment and hospitalization for only £65.00 thats $130 dollars approx.

And the mobile home?.... sold it and good riddance. Roll on November :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;

Ken I have to take you to task - the British weather is not unpredictable - it is very predictable......... summer will be cr*p ..........every week from May ro September we will say 'perhaps it will get better next week', then in september we'll start saying 'perhaps we'll have an indian summer' then come November we'll realise it's just not gonna happen and we'll start hoping for 'better next year'  :rofl;

Enjoy Lanzarote, wish I was going (particularly in November, a really dreary month) :2thumbsup;

Rose I agree 'Unpredictable' is an inaccurate description of British weather. Since 1948 we have had a good summer every 7 years (I mean a real scorcher) with the exceptoin of 2004 when it didn't materialise.  Maybe we should offer vacational house swaps with some of our IHD families living in the US, Southern Canada and Australia lol  ;D

 Pelagia you'd soon feel differently if you had to experience it week after week. ;D

Well don't forget that I am having week after week of 90+ degree weather with high humidity and no rain in weeks.  We had one of the hottest Junes on record in Virginia this year.

I understand what you're saying. 96 degree is very hot I know having experienced those kind of temperatures in other countries. Although I felt very uncomfortable and sticky with the heat, I always felt upbeat and cheerful because the sun was shining and never felt  miserable as I do during week after week of summer rain. I know which feeling I'd rather have so send me your 96 degree weather....oh and ship me some air con. too. ;)
