Title: allergy to plastic tubing
Post by: Kini on July 17, 2008, 06:08:33 PM
Ok 5 yrs of PD dialysis on my daughter. In the past yr. with monthly testing of her fluid it always shows a cell count of 400 or so, I know that is a huge cell count but it is still not Normal, anyhow after 3 days NOTHING grows out. Each time about 6 times in the last yr and 1/2 we have had this happen. We would get the immediate cell count within hrs. with high count so we started Vanco & Gent. only to have it come up with NO growth in the 3 days ???? This even blows her Dr's mind  :banghead; So a possible theory is and allergic reaction to her tubing ??? She has a lot of Fibrin so I do heprin once a wk. but in the last 2 wks have been doing it daily and it has helped. Her bags were NOT cloudy yet not crystal clear. Better with the heprin. Dr. does not seem to have an answer. We get _ uf's of 30 or so about once a week, final UF's are 400. She is one 1.5 sol. with one exchange in the afternoon, then pause till 8 pm then on cycler with 5 exchanges during the night. She has NO pain, I make sure she is not constipated we all know what can do  :thumbdown; just this on going low cell count and it bothers me. I just pray her peritoneum is not giving out after 5 yrs. I hate the thought of Hemo. but her KTV's are fine... So has anyone been allergic to their tubing ???? Any input or Ideas would be appreciated,, such a mystery   :urcrazy;

I have read of cases where patients had an allergy to the plastic tubing. I would advise seeing a dermatologist.
