Post by: Romona on July 04, 2008, 01:10:04 PM
I would love to meet up with anyone at the Games. Team Pittsburgh is registering and having pictures done on Sat. If anyone is going and wants to try to meet up, PM me.

I wish we could have made it there this year. Jenna is registered but we just couldn't get it together with also going to Colorado and Chicago - hopefully next time!

Wish they would have it closer, within a days driving distance. As long as I can make it home while the sun is still up I could do it. But there are no plans to bring it to the surrounding area I was told last year.

I think they also need to have Dialysis Games.

I think so too. The Kidney Foundation hopes to raise awareness for organ donation. There needs to be awareness of kidney disease and the importance of detection and treatment.

I had thought about organizing some dialysis activities such as golf and bowling (or other sports). They would probably need to be on a regional basis due to limited travel for many patients. I'm gonna run it by my local NKF chapter and see what they think. Surely some of the major dialysis companies would pitch in with sponsorship.

I know our region has many golf fund raisers. I think it is a great idea to approach them.
Zack are you participating?

Our does too but they are for regular golfers who have formed their own team. I'd like to see a tournament restricted to dialysis patients. I think it would open a lot of eyes about life on dialysis.

Yay Angela, so glad you are going! If you can get me a program, I would appreciate it. Jenna and I are registered and wish we could pick it up ourselves, but too much going on for us to go. There's a tribute to Patrice in the program. Thanks, don't worry if you can't get it.

Maybe next year, some of us could go as the cheering section.  I want to meet Romona!!  And Angela!!   If I visited my sister in New Concord, Ohio I it wouldn't too far.  Hmmm, I will really think about that.

Have a marvelous time--take lots of pictures.   And show everyone what you can do with a transplant! :yahoo; :clap;

If they had a hiking competition my husband would do this!  He is not a team sports kind of guy.  It sure sounds like fun though.  And I would like to meet Angela and Romona too!

I got here (Pittsburgh) today around 3-3:30pm. That was a LONG 18 hr ride. I don't know if Romona is bowling in the doubles event or just the singles, so I will definately meet her Tuesday for the singles bowling either way. I look forward to it!  :clap;

Everyone is so nice here and treat you as if they have known you forever. It's wonderful. It's really nice to meet so many people who have got the gift of life as well, and who also know what your going through prior to transplant and post-transplant. So many things to do and go, it's crazy! I wish I would of had someone to come with me, next time I will, but I am still having a blast and everyone is making me feel welcome and part of the team.

After my clinic appointment Thursday, I was listening to the radio, and one of the ladies on the morning radio show said that she was headed out to the Transplant Games this weekend. This is the #1 top 40 station in Atlanta, and one of the top 3 morning shows in the area  :2thumbsup;

I did a little research and found out that she received a kidney from her cousin in 2002. She's running the 100 meter for Team Georgia.

I will make sure we get pictures!

Why do you need to drive home every night to be able to go to the games? Why can't you go to the games and stay with your team at the hotel and take the shuttles everywhere you go? It would be nice to have you come to the next one and be able to meet you and have you help promote transplants. :)

I love Angela!  :cuddle; The Transplant Games are amazing. The emotional roller coaster is something that can not be described! The donor families and living donors are incredible. The opening ceremonies are just amazing. If the games ever get to a city near you, go. Even if you don't have a transplant the atmosphere of courage and hope is something you will never forget. I could have spent hours looking at the quilt panels. Each square is so beautiful. The families that put the squares together are so creative and capture the spirit of the loved ones they have lost. The living donor and donor families are such hereos.

The people in charge of my team are putting all the pictures from this years games onto a CD for each person on our team, and they are trying to get them to us Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, so if Romona hasn't been able to get a copy of the medal pics by the time I get home Wednesday night, then I shall post them then.

Unfortunately they were 14 medals short for team bowling, so we didn't get to walk around wearing a medal to show we won, awww :( :lol;. We did get to walk up when they called our names and get medals put on us and so forth but after they took pictures we had to give them back because they just borrowed those medals for us to take pics.

Romona is right, these games are AMAZING and WONDERFUL and an emotional rollercoaster. The opening ceremony was something I cannot describe... it was an amazing experience and to hear your team be called and walk in.. everyone cheering for you like your some kind of hero... makes a person cry. I think the hero's are the Living Donors and Donor Family's who allow us to even be able to be on this earth still. I am glad that the Donor Family's and Living Donor's got recognized by themselves and not just as part of the recipients team, they deserve their own recognition.

I really wish I could of came with my mom... even though the kidney I have working now is from a cadaver, she still deserves that recognition for saving my life by giving me a part of her. I hope one of these future games we can go together.

OK I am just going on and on, :lol;.  :grouphug;

I'm independent, I rely on myself and can't afford to take an airline and a hotel stay for few days. I just need to attend and be able to drive back while it is still light out. Like a hospital stay, I like having my own room.

We are independant also. We also don't pay for our hotel rooms, and we also get our own rooms. We also didn't take n airlanes, and we didn't pay for the bus we did take. So, now you can go. :)

I don't like buses. If I have to ride for long periods of time, I better be doing some driving. It is not convenient either for me compared to taking a plane or driving myself. A plane, 2 to 3 hour trip and your there, driving self, speeding, stopping when I want and where I want. I just have a thing about buses and will never take one again. So don't plan seeing my happy but self there anytime soon. :rofl;

Not into the fundraising stuff the team does either, that's can be done by someone else who like to sell stuff.

The girl in the picture wearing black and gold with Angela is my awesome bowling partner Kari. She got a kidney from her wonderful mother that did the 40 shirts for Team Pittsburgh's bowlers. The shirts had a bowling pin on the back with a green ribbon around the pin. Thanks for sharing your pictures Angela. Mine didn't turn out very well.

They gave me a Bronze Medal that said swimming on it to wear to the closing ceremonies.

So basically no one gets to keep a medal or just a select few? If only a select few, that sucks! Either every participant gets one, or no one gets one to be fair.
Title: Re: Transplant Games Next Weekend!!!!!
Post by: angela515 on July 19, 2008, 04:31:05 PM
Whoever wins a medal gets to keep it... you don't get a medal if you don't win Gold, Silver or Bronze in whatever event/division in that event your doing. Same as Olympics and so on.

So you do get one after all. That's good, but sounds like someone didn't do their math correctly when ordering medals from that statement.

They did their math right, but changed the format to include more winners at the last moment (meaning after they already ordered the other amount of medals, and the other one's were still on their way), and that is why they came up short in only that event.

They did order enough but the engraving was wrong on the back.

Me and my teammate got the correct one's from our manager's on Tueday night, but the other 2 people from our bronze team didn't get the correct one's yet.

Me too, because at first it was just supposed to be "Female" with te highest score. And "Male" with the highest score... so only 2 people would of won medals out of each bowling event.
