We supposed have a lake monster in the lake here. The name of the lake is Crescent Lake and the monster is named "cressie". There have been numerous sitings over the years. Will finally one of the TV networks has decided to do a documentary on our monster. There was a film crew hre last week doing research on the lake and interviewing people. They had our boat rented for 3 days to use a sonar and underwater cameras to see the bottom of the lake. They also had divers do some diving. It will be on National TV on either the discovery channel or the history channel later in the fall or winter. Should be interesting. They didn't tell anybody if they found cressie or not!!! Personally I think cressie is just a big eel. Probably a conger eel.
One is of the film crew on our boat. The others are pictures of the lake.

Cool story del.
-
You Canadians come up with the best stories!!! LOL!
-
I actually watch all those shows on Discovery Channel. I'll be looking for your boat.
-
Interesting.
-
I'll be watching for it on the Discovery Channel too. Looks like a beautiful place. Lucky you!
Lake Tahoe on the California/ Nevada border is supposed to have a creature called "Tahoe Nessie."
There is no evidence though, and I think it's just a ploy to sell T-shirts, books, mugs, etc. We have
had a family vacation home there since 1936 and Nobody has ever seen it.
-
can't wait 2 see it
-
WOW HOW COOL IS THAT
-
Nessie
Tessie
Cressie
I wonder if they are all related?
-
I think they all feed off the Loch Ness monster (Nessie) for tourism!!!
-
Wow. I'll watch for it, the show. I am too tired to look for monsters.
-
That is sooooooo cool! How exciting that one of our peoples boat is a star on national tv now. I am a TLC and Discovery channel junkie and cannot wait to see the show. I will find it even more special and interesting just because it is your boat they used!!!

I hope they found something!

Must be something about Maritimers. Where I'm from in N.B. there is supposedly a sea monster in a place called Lake Utopia, and they came up with the most creative name ever for it- "The Lake Utopia Sea Monster" :urcrazy;
-
Awesome Del, I will keep an eye for it on TV
-
Yep, monsters here, monsters there, monsters everywhere!
-
The documentary that was filmed here in the spring about the monster in our lake is airing tomorrow night Sept 17th at 8 eastern time ( I think that's the time) on monsterquest on the American History channel. They used our boat to look for the monster!!!! We won't get to see it here because we do not get the american history channel we just get the Canadian history channel. :banghead; :Kit n Stik;
If you watch it let me know if you liked it!!! It will also be on history.com on Thurs. Apparently you can just click on it and view it!!
-
Thanks Del. I am going to try to watch it. I think it is such a cool experience for them to use your boat.
-
I'll try to catch it too Del.

Monster Quest is a documentary television series that began to air on October 31, 2007 on The History Channel. The program deals with the search for various cryptozoological creatures reportedly seen around the world.
The purpose of the show is best described by the narrative in the opening credits, "Witnesses around the world report seeing monsters. Are they real or imaginary? Science searches for answers, on Monster Quest."
This week's episode: Lake Monsters of the North September 17, 2008 Investigation into the search for "Cressie", what Native Americans call the "Pond Devil" and say is giant eel that lurks in the depths of Newfoundland's Crescent Lake.
The official website: http://www.history.com/minisites/monsterquest/ You can even watch episodes online! (If you have Adobe - mine won't work on my mac! :( )
-
Anybody who watches it could you please give me some feedback on it as I won't see it!! Our cable company or satlitte companies don't carry the american history channel.
-
http://www.history.com/minisites/monsterquest/ You can even watch episodes online - see if your computer will work on that site del.
-
No problem getting on the site but I'm on dialup okarol. We are in the process of being able to get highspeed. Hopefully before Christmas!!! On dial up it is too slow to even watch a video.
-
Well that sucks! Doesn't your local library have high speed? Any neighbors? I will watch it tonight and let ya know how it is!
-
High speed is not available anywhere in our area yet. They are in the process of sticking the poles and running the wires on them. Hopefully we will be all hooked to high speed by Christmas. Dial up does suck!!! it's so slow. I can't even get youtube videos!!! The school has a satellite but that is slower than my dial up at home!!!!

Hey del - I watched the show! It was an hour long. Your boat "Wave Over Wave" was in about 90% of the show! The area around Roberts Arm was beautiful, the lake just like the photos you have shared with us.
The program focused on the search for "Cressie", the mysterious creature allegedly lurking at the bottom of Lake Crescent in New Foundland.
They told about the Native American legends dating back centuries and referring to a "Pond Devil" and a "Swimming Demon".
Their research team was composed of divers, biologists and a forensic sketch artist.
There have been recent sightings by witnesses who describe seeing a strange oversized eel. The sketch artist sat down with two eyewitnesses - Effie Colbourne - who saw something in 1991, and Fred Parsons, 1995, to sketch their visual recollections of the "monster."
The scientists used hi-tech equipment to get to the bottom of Lake Crescent. The had 2 kinds of sonar and an underwater robotic camera. The also sent divers down to see if the could discover any larger creatures in the lake.
There was also a scientist who came up with plausible explanations, such as it being a large log, buoyant due to rotting which would create methane gas, causing it to bob temporarily. Another explanation was that it could be otters, swimming in a line, making you see one head and 3 humps - which would appear like a serpent. He also said it could be a large saltwater conger eel, who had lost his way and come inland to the lake.
Because the lake is 6 miles long, and murky (visability no more than 4 feet due to sediment) they didn't have much luck with the camera. They put out a large crab trap filled with herring, which apparently eels love, but it remained uneaten.
At one point they all got excited over something swimming in the distance. The camera man zoomed in, trying to get a shot. They finally realized it was a beaver, swimming along.
So they never could say for sure what "Cressie" was - the mystery remains!
-
Great summary Okarol. Thanks.
-
Thanks okarol!! I hope the show will make tourists want to come here to catch a glimpse of Cressie!!! We have a beautiful hiking trail around the lake. I can't wait to see the show. Personally I think it is a giant conger eeel. People have seen large eels in the lake.
