Title: About Keith (keefer)
Post by: mysty on June 16, 2008, 01:58:51 PM
Hi all.. things have been going really well.
We have been planing the logistics of his move down to Miami.

While at dialysis this morning.. something made Keith's heart feel strange and wrong.
They took him to the hospital and are running tests.
Thankfully the emergency room nurse was very nice and let me talk to him.
I just talked to him briefly and they are keeping him over nite to run some tests.

This.. is my first trauma medically with Keith.  I dont understand whats going on as
he's too tired to explain it.  Some thing about pressure to low and fast palpitations..

I was at work when he texted me..told me not to worry.. has happened before..
Just wanted to share with you.
I'm kind of in a daze though.. not really sure what all is up and what is going on.

He said he would call me later after a nap.. he's really just blah or tired or .. i dont know..
Thanks for letting me share... my phone and my bed is all i really want right now....
I don't like it when I dont know whats going on.. and its just driving me crazy
that I'm in miami and he's up in Philly area..I feel useless and not well informed

Worst of all.. he's there with no one and that breaks my heart..

I'll keep you all updated.. maybe he's right.. a few tests tomorrow and he's outta there..
something about some blood test came back a bit high..
More as i find out..

Oh mysty, I'm sorry. This has got to be tough -- being at such a distance, not knowing what's going on, feeling helpless. It's awfully hard, sometimes, to care so much! Hang in there, girlfriend. I'll be thinking good thoughts about you and Keith and hoping things get better very soon!! :cuddle; :grouphug;

Thank you so very much.  I'm not letting it get to me.. I'm simply dazed right now.
Not falling apart (he would sooo hate that!)
I'm doing exactly what he told me.. relax he said.. i'll be fine..I'll call you later..

So.. I sit and wait (and go slowly insane of course)..
The not being there is really driving me nuts..
I can't fly up there .. stick him on a plane and bring him down.
And I cant fly up there to be with him at this point till I know what's going on.

This all totally sucks a big one.

Just talked to Honeypoo.. he called.
This is what i got from him and those on Dialysis will know more than me.
As he was near the end of dialysis.. his pressure was good but he felt odd.. almost like *crashing* but not
He said normally they give you saline and that gets you better.. but not this time..
So ambulance took him to hospital..
blood test were done and.. this is the tricky part for me not sure if i got it right
In the blood test.. there's an enzyme that would determine if you had a heart attack
well.. it was present but fell into the *grey* area..
meaning ---they arent sure
so they kept him..
he's sounding waaaay better..
ordered food....
hopefully his family will come around in a bit and then he will call me later tonight

all i can say is..
he's in the best hands possible.. the hospital.

Tomorrow.. they are doing a stress test.. and he expects to be out after that..
Shoot.. when i have my stress test every year.. i feel like im going to just collapse!!

So. .he may or may not be out tomorrow.. wont know till tomorrow..
I guess.. in a way he has beens stressed out as its expensive to move..
but we finally figured out how this last sunday..
He was really bummed out since he went back..

Now.. as soon as he gets out I'm gettting into high gear with getting him down here.
While he was down here he was active, happy,, relaxed, chilled..(so was i)

After this little scare.. (hopefully it will stay little).. I'm going to go into the
transplant area and see whats what.. and how to go about it..
wonder what the chances are we are a close match..
And no. he doesn't know this has been mulling around in my mind since
until he's here and finds a neph here.. there isnt much i can do until then.. (I think.. not sure)
I want to keep my guy for a long time.. with or without a transplant.. so you know
I'm going to pamper the heck out of him
He got a good taste of it those three weeks he was here

OK.. so everyone.. good positive thoughts are needed that this was nothing more than a blip on the radar...

Love you all
(heck I almost had a heart attack myself!)

The problem with renal patients and heart attacks is that the same enzyme whose elevated levels are normally used as a diagnostic sign that the patient has had a heart attack are also ALWAYS elevated in dialysis patients, whether they have had a heart attack or not, so that test is not much help in diagnosing the problem.

Thanks Stauffenberg.. I think I understand I'm not the one on dialysis.. soooo if you don't mind let me ask you this.

If its the same enzyme and it's always elevated.. then.. they would compare that to those of his monthly blood work at the center then I would hope.

And.. if I really get this (what you explained).. since its the same enzyme but yet his heart/chest was in pain.. then the only way to verify is with a stress test?

I'm trying to learn and understand.. if you could correct me or let me know i'm on the right track... i would be grateful

Chari, Lori  thank you .. he needs the thoughts and prayers.. I need to hear his voice once again before bedtime..*sigh*

My prayers are with you.
Being long distance from each other must be very stressful. I hope the doctors can get it figured out soon.
Wishing him a quick recovery.

Misty, the enzyme they are looking for to diagnose a heart attack is when you have an attack the damaged muscle slowly gives off an enzyme.
I would take being in a gray area to be good news.

As stauffenberg said this enzyme is always elevated in a kidney patient is something I didn't know so this sounds like good news too because it would be expected to be there. I always learn something new at IHD.

Sending thoughts & prayers to both you & Keith.

Paris.. thank you..yes it will be a good and wonderful day.

Mimi.. I love your graphics...and thank you so much.

mcjane..that's why I come here.. always learn something new...thank you as well.

I hope he's alright and get's out today.  I know hospitals well... They wake you up to check things and then you
are expected to nod off again..lol.. and you have to watch what they want to give you.. :o

I miss talking with him on the phone (we both have verizon so its a freebie!).. miss seeing him on cam right before I go to
bed and once i wake up before i go to work. I really hate not knowing how his nite went, what is scheduled at what time for him today.
and so much more..  This sucks badly.  My tummy is in turmoil   :puke;

The one thing we both agreed on when we spoke for a little bit last nite is...this...we both need each other and we need to get his hiney down here extremely soon.  :banghead;

 He's doing great though.. enjoying ordering off the menu at will and his friend from the center came to visit him. (with a piece of cake too!)..He says.. honey its not bad..I'm like a king here.  phhfwwttt.. King my  :sir ken;.  Wait till I get him back down here.. :Kit n Stik;

Ok.. Hi ho hi ho..it's off to work I go... update when I get home from work later today.. :waving;

I will tell you  I need a Mysty in my life.
However I have a Victor and I will keep him around.
Don't you just hate it when they are gone and there is nothing you can do for them?
I hope Keith gets better quickly and out of the hospital and moved to you soon!

I hope all goes well , but it does sound similar to my panic attacks , so maybe thats a possibility? Dont forget they strike out of nowhere and to anyone! (i should know!) After i had my 'do's i had several ECG's (for heart) and nothing showed up . One thing you can be sure of is that if the tests are done straight away or within 24hours a heart attack will show up , so if he didnt have anything obvious thats good news!!!  :2thumbsup;

being a caregiver myself- I am soo familiar with that sickening lurch your heart gives, when someone you love has the 'next' medical issue. Hang in there girl- your lucky to have each other.!!

Mysty:  Since the relevant enzyme is always elevated in dialysis patients, they don't bother measuring it with the routine blood work, so there is no baseline for comparison.  The only time it is ever measured is when they are trying to diagnose a heart attack.

The critical tests to determine the cardiac status in dialysis patients would have to be the EKG and stress test.

Mysty I am sorry ,I've been missing for a couple of days (builders in -  a long story!).

I am so sorry to hear what you've both been going through, I do hope things are getting sorted and they know what's wrong with Keith by now.

It must be so very hard for you being far away and unable to be with him.  But your love will see you through this 'blip' and soon he will be where he belongs - with you.  It's so hard when you don't know what is going on isn't it ..........sending you a big hug  :big hug: and one for Keith too  :big hug:  xxx

All you guys are soooo wonderful. :clap; :thumbup;
Keith is home..  :yahoo;
Has appointments with the cardiologist.
Keith told me it wasnt anything bad.
That its a thickening of the wall around his heart.

Don't sound not bad and dont sound not good.
I'll have to research this.... in either case...
he is home and he has appts scheduled..

Let's see what happens with the cardo doc.
