Title: Time in the hospital
Post by: Loretta on June 13, 2008, 07:50:36 PM
I have had a bad time lately.  I had surgery to remove my right kidney and urethra due to complications with cancer and numerous infections.  I had the surgery on April 24th and didn't wake up until April 30th.  I was kept in a comma because of blood clots and having to have tubes down my throat to breath.

The Dr can not explain what happened.  Some think my INR was too low and caused the blood clots and breathing problems.  Others say it just happened and wasn't "caused" by anything.

I spent a total of 19 days in the hospital.  One of the major problems I had was a dialysis access.  I have a failed fistula and graph.  and I had a permacath in my chest that had clotted off. They finally put an access in my leg,  and after some adjustments I finally got dialysis after not having it for almost a week.

8 days after I got home from the hospital I developed a fever that kept climbing. Over afternoons and evenings and would go away in the morning. after three days of that,  I  waited until morning and went to the hospital.  I knew the infection was in my catheter and leg.  They couldn't get any positive cultures.  So they sent me home in a week.

That evening I noticed the bandage started showing drainage.  I knew I would have to go back but my daughter needed me at home so I put it off.  I spent one day at home and then when I went to dialysis.  The refused to dialys me and again sent me to the ER.  After another week in the hospital and a week at home on two different antibiotics it feels like the infection is clearing.

My daughter was diagnosed with Mono.  I have started having the same symptoms.    The worst part is a stomach ache.  This isn't normally a major symptom, but it has been for my daughter.  I also have a bad headache part of which is pressure behind my eyes and the fatigue!  I have an appointment on Tuesday and hopefully the Dr will order a test to test for Mono.

Hi Loretta, It sounds just awful, what you've experienced. I am so sorry you've had to endure all of this.
I hope you don't get mono and can recover from the infection.

Loretta,
You have been having it very rough indeed! I'm so sorry things haven't been going well for you recently.
I figure maybe things can only get better from here. Having Mono on top of everything else sounds difficult.
I hope things get better for you soon and that the doctors get it all figured out. Wishing you the best.

Wouldn't it just be easier to die sometimes?  WOW you made it through.  You stomach could be nerves.  The last thing you need is mono.  You and your daughter need your rest.
I hope you have help from someone.  If not you tell your Social Worker you need some help.
