So yes I listened to all of you on the boards and went and had the temp catheter put in today.. The procedure was a breeze but my question is this for those who had it..Where it is is just about the bone on my chest..I was told prior you feel that bone that sticks out on each side and will go right under..so I am surprised it is above..But it hurts ...I am having hard time turning my head left or right and feels liike a stiff neck ..Is this just because of procedure and it will subside or is this how it is going to be ??
just curious need to see what to expect. .thanks as always ..

That should subside in a few days and you'll get used to how it feels. At first I had a hard time turning my neck too but now it's fine and I felt as if I had a light coat on a wire hanger hanging on my collarbone. My tubes are taped and lay over my right breast like half a banana which makes for an interesting shape under a blouse but I'm hardly aware it's there at all.

Yep you will get used to it...and the stiffness will go away.

Yep, jes like they been say'n. Nut'n but a lil pain fer awhile. :banghead;They'll be times you ferget it's even thar! I've had me at least 8 of em. Me biggest worry was when I was sleep'n I would get to scrath'n the itch. Yanked me stitches out several times without even know'n! Welcome to our world! Not near as bad as fer some udder folks. Stay strong! :thumbup;

When I got my first chest catheter I couldn't turn my head and I had to prop my shoulder up to keep it from pulling so hard when I was laying down. It hurt so bad, the nurses would come by several times a day with morphine. Then a day or so before I left the hospital, the pain just started easing, and by the time I was released, I could barely feel it. When it was finally taken out, for a while it felt weird NOT having it there. You will get used to it.

Now today I am going to Philly and getting the fistula put in my arm..again nervous esp since they are putting it in my dominent arm...
and yes finally feel like a pin cushion..Lets see.. still have pd catheter in stomach (just wish that worked), I am type 1 diabetic with pump on my other side of stomach, Have the neck catheter now the arm fistula..and add in a cam walker thanks to bone infection of my foot ..yep just a mess LOL

Best of luck today with the fistula surgery. You're definitely now an official cyborg what with all the tubes and pump and modifications. Keep on being brave and I hope you'll feel the benefits of dialysis soon. :grouphug;
