Title: Oprah - organ donors
Post by: Ohio Buckeye on June 03, 2008, 08:25:19 PM
Did anyone see Oprah today?
There was a family who had lost a son and donated his organs .  The recepients of the organs
were also on the show.  A young man who had received a kidney, a man who had received a pancreas and a kidney,
and a man who got his heart.  Then another family who had heard about this young man donating his organs
told his family that he wanted his donated also if something should happen to him.  He died 2 wks. later
and his organs were donated.  Dr. Oz and Oprah and family gave a plea for organ donations, urging people to
get it on their license but also to tell their loved ones their wishes.
Wasn't sure if this belonged in this section or off-topic but it has to do with organ donation so I put it here.

Darn, I never seen it... I usually hate it when I hear a show mention Kidneys.  I find that I haven't seen one show that ever got a fact right  :urcrazy;

Well that sounds like great publicity for organ donation.  Good stuff.

I'm am so glad that Oprah and Dr Oz mentioned this on a show.  I hope it encourages more people to vote.  I think that one of these years, Oprah should have an organ donor crowd for her ever popular "Favorites Show."  Those are the people that truly deserve such great gifts.

What a great idea.  Can we pass it along to her?

The young man who was killed (who donated the organs) was from NC. He was the team mascot for U of N.C. at Chapel Hill.  He was extremely well liked by all. It was huge news here when it all happened. Very sad.  This was a rerun on Oprah, but it is good to have it seen many times.   It must really help the parents to see who received their childs organs.  I can't imagine.
