Title: Pureflow Software Upgrade
Post by: terry3004 on May 28, 2008, 11:12:21 AM
I received a package on Friday from NxStage with a software upgrade for my PureFlow...version 1.12.

I have not been able to install the software as of yet...my cycler is not "talking" with my PureFlow.  I have a new computer for my cycler on the way and should have it by tomorrow.

According to the letter that I received with the upgrade there are a few nice things with the upgrade.

First of all, the batch time is now 120 hours, not 72 hours   :bandance; :bandance; :bandance;

Also, there is now a power fail recovery when priming a PAK.  Haven't had that happen to me as of yet, but I'm glad I won't have to worry about that now.

There are a few other things that I can't remember at the moment.  These are the two that stuck out to me.

I will let everyone know how it goes after I get the upgrade done.

Well I guess I have THAT to look forward to...I do like the increased batch life, even though I only get 2 treatments from a batch, I've had to toss out more than I like when I can't get that second treatment in on time.

Thanks for the info Terry!!

I just spoke with NxStage about this.  They are slowly rolling out the update.  12 centers at a time.  I am very excited about the 120 hours!  (of course my center isn't even on the list, but eventually we'll get the update)

Apparently this slow rollout is so that technical support won't get flooded with calls.

I sure wish I would have had the upgrade present on the new PureFlow controller I just installed, the 1 year life of the UV light was about to expire, so they shipped a new controller, you have to change out the controller AND install a new filter pak, had just started the prime of the new pak when I had a momentary power outage, had to pull the "new" pak and throw it away, and install a second one in order to proceed, understand they are valued at $750.00 each for the pak's, what a waste.........

HOLY CRAP.  I went through 4 in one week!  Silverhead, I am in shock, and I concur...  what a waste!

120 hours?  That's going to be so much better - no pitching 20 L of fluid when we have to rearrange schedules at the last minute.   :bandance;

I got my new computer for my cycler today.  It was easy to install.  Four screws and it came right off.  Upon further inspection, I believe that the reason it stopped working is because it runs on Windows XP   ::)

Also, here is the list of all the upgraded features with 1.12:

As I posted before, the batch time is now 120 hours and there is a power fail for priming a PAK.

Here is the rest:

New streaming product water functionality for chloramines testing.  According to the new manual, when it is time to test the water, you unhook the orange line, and it will pump 60cc of fluid for testing.

Reorganized user interface designed to prevent inadvertent drain.

Click sound when buttons are pressed.

UV Light maintenance timer based on actual hours used

Software upgradable by thumb drive or internet

Additional Cautions and Alarms

Streamlined User's Guide with additional troubleshooting.

The upgrade was very easy.  I put the thumb drive into my cycler and the PureFlow immediately popped up with the software upgrade.  It took about 5 minutes for the upgrade to load.  I then had to call NxStage to activate the new software as I don't have a landline, and my cycler is nowhere close to my router for my internet.  The activation took about two minutes with tech support, who is always very quick and easy to help.

I will be making my first batch tonight with the new software.  I will post how the new testing process works tomorrow.

My "Jewelbox" quit working about a month ago, called tech support and he said unless I was having a problem with the Cycler to not worry about it, if I did have problems they would send a new one, but as it was about a year old the battery inside the unit had wore out and just like a home computer the thing shuts down if it does not detect battery voltage, to bad they don't have an access to it, I'm sure it is an easy replacement and would save them a lot time and money......
By the way, the jewelbox is there to just collect data about the cycler runs and to have a port to connect phone lines or memory sticks, it does not effect the cycler operations if it is not working......

Sorry, the Jewelbox is the computer that attach's to the back of the cycler, that is the name that NxStage uses for it, it has ports on the bottom for the phone line also has a USB port for memory sticks and for local network, 2 green LED's, 1 to show that the hard drive is on, the other lights up as it is writing or reading from it......
