I was pondering what is my all time favourite movie earlier and thought it would make a great post here. The only problem is I can't decide what my favourite is.
Firstly, there is Annie, you know the musical, red, curly haired orphan gets adopted by big fat rich guy and lives happily ever after. When I was growing up I watched this film at least twice a day, I would get up like 3hours early before school starts just to watch it.
But, Pride & Prejudice is a big winner too. Classic British, Jane Austen chic flick, (although I got Heph hooked too!) Watched the six hour series twice in a day once. Obviously, didn't do much else that day. except consume my body weight in pop corn, chocolate and fizzy pop!
Pirates of the Carribbean is on the list too. I just love this film and think it is excellently made. Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow definately does it for me!
Hey, I guess I've narrowed it down to three all time greatest movies. (May think of more in the next day or so though!)
??? So, get your thinking caps on and let us all know your all time greatest movie(s) ;)
-
Well, since I watch 3 movies a week, I should get paid to preview movies! Darla's dialysis picks! ;D
My all time favorite is "The Way We Were" with Robert Redford and Barbara Streisand. Such a Good movie.
I also like "The Basket" with Peter Coyote and Karen Allen.
"Return to Me" with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver is a good movie. It is about a transplant (I won't say any more) ;)
GEEZ! Don't get me started!

I subscribe to Netflix.com. You go on-line pick your movies and they mail them to you, and you mail them back (Postage Free). Again, this is probably a U.S. thing. Check it out www.netflix.com I think you get a free trial. If nothing else you can browse movies and read about them for free. I love this. I signed up for 2 movies. That means I can have 2 movies in my possession at a time. No late fees. For $16 a month I can have 2 movies.......all month, or I can watch them the same day I get them and send them back and in 2 days I have another movie. I have it timed where I always have a movie for dialysis. Today I watched Eight Below. All animal lovers need to grab a box of Kleenex and watch that movie.
Well, sometimes I screw up and then I just go to Blockbusters and get one. It really pisses them off when they try to sell me their mail order movie plan and I say "I already have Netflix."
-

There's also a number of black and white and foreign movies in there.
I guess I'll just admit to being a movie fanatic ( I own way too many movies for my own good )
-
Pulp Fiction is the best movie of all times
Boondock Saints
Heat
Scarface
Resevoir Dogs
Platoon
The Deer Hunter
Blow
Godfather series
Rambo series
Serpico
Memento
Fight Club
Kill Bill 1/2
Raging Bull
Shawshank Redemption
Midnight Express
thats all I can think of right now
NOT The Lord of the Rings!!
-
I like your choices Hyperlite, but, you think Pulp Fiction was better than Forrest Gump??? I DONT THINK SO ::)
-
Pulp Fiction runs Forest Gump's show...
Way cooler movie. I could listen to that movie without watching it, and it would still be amazing. The dialogue is ridiculously good.
-
OK, i will compromise and say Pulp Fiction is definetly in a class by itself, i do admit, it was an awesome movie, but the feelings that Forrest Gump brought out of me, unbelievable. Second best to The Notebook, ok, can you tell i am a crier...
-
Hey let's just remember it's all subjective so there really is no better or worse movie ;)
But I guess everyone likes my choices cause no one commented on them :-*
-
Plenty of movies I like. More along lines of certain directors.
However the best movie of all time IMO was
STAR WARS
Nothing has impressed me more from the time when I first seen it in 77 as a kid.
-
No laughing >:(
Rush hour 1 and 2
Rat Race
Kevin and perry go large
K-9 and K-911
If you just want a good laugh, great films to watch ;D
-
I gather there aren't many black and white movie fans here?
You guys are making me feel soooo old ! >:D
-

12 Angry men (ORIGINAL B&W)
-
Don't say there is no worst movie until you have seen Troll 2. Have you seen Troll 2?
My favorite light entertainment movie is Love at First Bite. It is one of the few movies I can watch again and again and again!
Mom 3
-
Don't say there is no worst movie until you have seen Troll 2. Have you seen Troll 2?
I can beat this one. Rent Terror Toons sometime, it has to be the worst movies of all time.
-
jdat B & W movies what are those ;D I think my Grandma once told me about them >:D
OK, most of Laurel and Hardy short films. So funny :) ;)
-
Hey Kevno, I think personally that Bud Abbott and Lou Costello are funnier than Laurel and Hardy, but that is my personal opinion ;) oh man, remember the ol' Little Rascals?? They just dont make shows like they used to anymore, thats for sure...
-
Abbott and Costello not that popular in th UK. But Repeats of Laurel and Hardy are on nearly every other year. Still VERY FUNNY. I do not think as good since they tried to colour them.
-
What about the 3 Stooges? Did they air in the UK? I never seen anyone laugh so hard as my nephew when he was 3 years old, i think i laughed harder at my nephew than i did at that show, awww, i just relived a fond memory, thank you Kevno ;) I love it when that happens :)
-
Funny yes :-\ I think that is where I remember Laurel & Hardy from. When I was a child always on Saturday morning TV.
-
Animaniacs comes out tomorrow! Happy dance around the room!
-
One of my favorites is Forrest Gump.
I just rented The Worlds Fastest Indian. It was good.
-
Mad Max is my all time favorite movie.
-
If you like horror you can't go wrong with most Lions Gate Films, or for cheesy horror most Troma films can't be beat.
-
Easily the best movie ever is Raising Arizona
Followed closely by The Goonies (yes you slowpokes, that's where my name comes from)
-
OHHHHH, i GET IT NOW,,, Sloth luv chunk, awwww, lol, you cant imagine the things that went through my mind when i read that name. it all makes sense now, thanks for explanation
-
:-[ :-\ :o ;D
-
I cant believe no one has voted for Nacho Libre, lol, one of Jack Blacks best :) :) (IMO) ;)
-
Okay Goofynina, I'll order it on Netflix right now. Nacho Libre!!!
Oh, it is not released yet. "This movie's release date is unknown."
-
It was just in the theaters afew weeks ago.
-
In my book "Gone With The Wind", "The Sound of Music", and "Apollo 13", not in any particular order.
-
But I guess everyone likes my choices cause no one commented on them :-*
I don't think I've seen any of them. LOL. Wait, I did see the re-make of Psycho, with Vince Vaughn. I 'heart' that man! :-*
I gots more:
Secondhand Lions
The King and I
I loved Secondhand Lions. I think Michael Caine is an amazing actor. I cry in almost all his movies. :) And the King and I - I like the musical version with Yul Brenner and the recent re-make with Jodie Foster.
-
Rerun, just a warning, Nacho Libre is sort of something like "the Jerk" one of those so stupid it was funny movies, but i love it soooo much...something about him just makes me smile in a forrest gump kind of way ;)
-
And the King and I - I like the musical version with Yul Brenner and the recent re-make with Jodie Foster.
I haven't seen the one with Jodie Foster, Yul Brenner/Brynner makes the film for me.
-
Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I loved "Dangerous Liaisons" w/ Glenn Close. There are scenes w/ no dialogue where you can see her thoughts and emotions flicker and flash through her eyes and facial expressions, and they are more powerful than any dialogue ever written. She was also very good in "Fatal Attraction".
Almost anything w/ Robert Duvall is worth watching. I don't think there is anyone who has played more roles in the past 45 years and certainly not of such consistant high quality. Michael Caine, who I loved in "Second Hand Lions", admitted that in between the characters he would have played for free, there were roles he grabbed just for the pay. Duvall never has appeared to me to do that with any role he took. His research for all of his roles would make a great book for acting students and intersting reading for everyone interested in movies, actors, and human nature. Ed Harris has been in a stinker or two, but I usually love anything he is in. His portrayal of Jackson Pollock was great!
Kevin Spacey is another actor I watch for. I fell in love with his acting when he was on TV in "Wise Guy", and he has never disappointed since -- "The Usual Suspects" is one of my favorites.
Critics didn't care for "Legends of the Fall", and I can understand why, but I've watched it several times -- a"Chic Flick" w/ plenty of testosterone.
If I had to pick just one movie, it would have to be "Man of La Mancha" because of the message that you choose who you are, and should not let circumstance dictate your character. And I loved "Fiddler on the Roof" for the same reason. Just watching those two makes your heart swell, you walk a little taller, and you look for the good in yourself and others.
-
Haven't been to a movie theatre for years but my favorites
would be:
Dirty Dancing
Gone With the Wind
Sound of Music
Gettysburg
The Firm
The new movie about the snakes in the plane looks like a good one.
-
My top movies are:
Crash
The Green Mile
50 First Dates
Finding Neverland
Legally Blond
The King and I
Alice in Wonderland
Lion King
Coach Carter (made based of a highschool in my area)
-
I love Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and I think Drop Dead Gorgeous is really a riot, though it's definitely not the greatest movie of all time. What do you think of Napoleon Dynamite? Everyone I work with loves it, and they kept telling me "You just have to watch it again and you'll really love it". Well, now I've seen it 3 times and it is funny, but I don't think it's as funny as they think it is!
-

In my opinion Napoleon Dynamite was one the most unfunny movies ever made. Even after watching it a second time while drinking I couldn't find the humor every one else seems to see in it.
-
It took me a couple of times of watching Napoleon Dynamite before i liked it, and i think it is funny, To each their own (opinion that is ;))
-
OK guys, out of all the movies listed, i was the only one who listed Titanic, didnt anyone else like that movie? To date, it is the highest money maker of all time... Just brought it up cuz we just watched it and i forgot what an awesome movie it was :)
-
I loved Titanic, it just isn't a favorite of mine. Goofynina cool pic on your avatar. Good looking couple on there.
-
I like the wizard of oz myself. When I was young, I often wished there was a way to get to another place. As I got older, I found that there was NO PLACE LIKE HOME. Now that both my parents are gone, there are those times I wish they could be near, just to let me know everything would be OK. Sorry for going on, just letting out some bottled up feelings.
-
Hey JoePaul, no better place to let out your feelings than here right? right! And i too felt the very same way and yes, i even realized there is NO place like home.. :) :)
Thank you Sluff, just showing off our football spirit... ARE YA READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?? ;)
-
I love Titanic. I will put it on the DVD player and watch it just for fun. My daughters were so into Titanic when it came out. They drove me completely nuts with the theme song from it. They would play it over and over and over. AAAUUGH!
-
The Towering Inferno! >:D
-
You can't beat a good Aussie movie " The Castle " I have watched it at least 5 times and still laugh.
-
Anyone remember "The Gods Must Be Crazy"?
Someone throws a Coke bottle out of an airplane and it creates havoc in a primitive village where they decide it is an unwelcome gift from the Gods. The story weaves around the adventures of the man who is attempting to either return it or throw it off the edge of the world.
It's impossible to categorize this movie. Many of the scenes are hysterically funny; I don't recall ever laughing that hard that many times in any other movie. The dramatic scenes had me holding my breath, and I cried more than once. Even though this can be viewed for pure entertainment there are several levels of meaning which gave me food for thought for days after. Anyone who hasn't seen it needs to make an effort to find a copy.
-
Some of my favourite films:
The Full Monty - when I want a laugh.
Pretty Woman - love that film.
The Quiet Man - a John Wayne oldie but a golden oldie.

There are very few movies I want to see the first time and most of them I don't want to see a second time,
but I did like these well enough to watch them again:
Gone With the Wind
The Sound of Music
Titanic
Chicago
"Fargo" was a funny movie to me, but others didn't think it that funny. The funniest of all to me tho was,
"The Gods Must be Crazy?" Like Black says it has laughter, tears, and it gives you something to think about when it
is over.
Mimi

Little Miss Sunshine was so great! I loved that movie!!
