Welcome to our community, Adam! I am so glad that you found us, and that we found you!! This is just the place to be when you are faced with this renal challenge, as I like to call it. this is a wonderful international community that has become a real family. :grouphug; You are going to experience that as you spend time with us. this is a place for venting, when you need to, ranting, raging or raving. And here you will find lots of information, since we believe that 'knowledge is power', but also lots of virtual shoulders to lean on, when you need them. So enjoy, keep reading (there's lots to read), and keep posting. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to the site. It is good that you found us so soon in your dialysis life. I did not find this site until seven years into it. The support system that is here is great. Lots of people with good advice.

I missed this introduction! Sorry! :welcomesign; :waving; I go to South Africa on GoogleEarth ALL the time. It is so beautiful (coastline). I had a friend in High School that went there as an exchange student. Not sure where she was exactly.
Welcome!!!

Welcome!
Adam, you mentioned that you had both the catheter and fistula surgery done at the same time. Is the tip of your peritoneal cathether currently buried underneath the skin? What made you decide to have both surgeries done at the same time?
-
i Had a Permacath inserted in my neck/chest, it connects to a artery in the neck and used for hemodialysis. i think u may have mistaken it for a peritoneal catheter.
i had both done because my kidney is functioning at less than 10% and would need a fistula later on since im in chronic kidney failure.
it would also be cheaper to go hospital and have everything done at once.
