Title: Paintball and Arm
Post by: SpeedFleX on July 16, 2006, 03:11:59 AM
a couple of friends and me are going paintballing and I would like to know if anyone here has any ideas on how to protect my dialysis arm? I have some ideas but haven't tested them yet.

THX for any Ideas!

I remember when I was dating my ex-boyfriend Jay and I had the PD catheter and we talked about this. he was saying something made out of leather ... who knows.

I would probably ask the surgeon, they would be the best person to know what to do. I probably wouldn't recommend paintball, as I don't know if there would be anything adequate to protect your arm if it was directly hit.

Ok I think I'll built something my self now. I was thinking about using these http://shop.hsv.de/catalog/images/14721_l.gif or something like it then before puttin them on I would put on a bandage so there's no pressure and even if my arm gets hit directly nothing will happen. I'll test my other arm first through

It's probably too late now, but I would suggest trying some soccer shin guards.  They are hard plastic so a paintball won't do any damage, your shin and forarm are about the same size so you shouldn't have to adjust it much if any, and the elastic straps at top and bottom can be adjusted to hold your arm so it is comfortable for your to wear.

Be very careful when wrapping ANYTHING  around your fistula that it is not even a little bit tight. A nurse wrapped a bandage around mine very very losely and the surgeon came in and saw it and went totally nuts at her!

You could just go, and be really good, and not get hit  ;D

YEP, I was going to suggest the soccer shin guards too. Good luck. Those things hurt like $ell when they hit!
