Walk, get some exercise, eat your veggies, stock up on bottled water, record some movies to watch, make a grocery checklist so anyone could do marketing for you, stock up on pet food, be sure you have a driver to take you to all the follow up appointments the 6 weeks, give someone all the phone numbers of friends and family (and US!) to let know after you're out of surgery.
One thing I forgot to mention: They said Jenna would be given a private room because they keep immunossupressed patients away from other patients. But when it came to the donor they said she would most likely share a room. We decided to pay for an upgrade to a private room for Jenna's donor, I arranged it ahead of time.

Yeah Donnia!!!!! I'm so happy and excited for you!!!!! And the countdown begins.... :yahoo;

Congratulations!!

How are things coming along on your transplant?
Things are moving, but still slow going. My 2nd brother is wearing his blood pressure monitor today. He takes it back to the clinic tomorrow morning. Who knows how that will turn out. When I talked to him earlier he said the current reading was 156/95. It doesn't look good. I believe it takes his BP every 20 minutes.
My husband went to the clinic with me this morning to have his blood drawn and tested. We'll see how that goes. I'm starting to think I'm destined for dialysis. At least until I get "the call".
Good luck. I hope everything goes smoothly! Is this your first transpant? I can't remember your history.
-
Dont get too down. I was with Baylor (and still am) and they are sloooooowwwwww....... but then I went to Lubbock and they are quick! This is my first transplant. Hopefully things will start moving more quickly for you.
-
Donnia, I can't believe I haven't given you my best wishes and congratulations!!! I am so happy for you!!!!!

Thanks! Only 9 days.... 5 dialysis days!!! My donor had to go do another catscan bause the dr. didn't like the first one.... nothing wrong with her, he just wanted a better catscan. I am getting REALLLLLYY Nervous now. Any last minute advice????

Record your favorite tv shows to watch when you get home. Freeze some simple meals. If you don't have a good scale, get one so you can weigh yourself a few times a day. Also a thermometer because you have to check your temperature. They usually give you a blood pressure machine to take home but the one we got wasn't working very good so luckily we had one we bought before. They give you the pill box and all your meds to take home, and they printed out all the instructions, but we took it a step farther and numbered the bottles to correspond with the meds sheet as it gets confusing, there are so many pills at first.
:yahoo; Not long now!!!
-
I'm not sure who sent it to me , but I have a huge pill organizer. I was going to take that with me. I am also taking a spiral notebook for questions and answers. I have started freezing foods to take (chicken breast, rice, boiled chicken for chicken and dumplings, hamburger meat..... is all that okay to eat???)
I do have a blood pressure machine and thermometer.... my scale isn't so great tho. Why do we have to weigh a few times a day?
-
I'm SOOOOOO excited for you!!!! 9 more days? That's crazy! I can't wait to read your transplant story.
Good Luck Donnia! You're going to do great!!!!

The weight checks are to be sure you're not retaining fluid.
-
:waving; donnia, I don't think I'd take the pill organizer to the hospital with you but wait until you get home and separate them at that time. The spiral notebook is a great idea and so is freezing meals ahead of time. If your scale isn't real accurate, you should invest in a new one, it is important to weight yourself daily to make sure you are getting rid of fluids and not losing real weight. The hospital will have you keep an input/output chart for a few weeks. Blood pressure readings daily and temperature at least daily unless you don't feel well and then you should take it more often. Your transplant coordinator will give you a bunch of discharge instructions. It would be helpful if you had someone there with you when they go over all the information with you, just so you have another set of ears. I wish you the best coming up and hug your donor, she looks like a real sweetie. :cuddle;

Do I need to take this scale to Lubbock with me?
Also, I am about due for a teeth cleaning.... should I get one, or wait until afterward... guess i need to ask my coordinator about that too.

Jenna was told no cleaning or dental work for the first 90 days after the transplant. Yes, ask your coordinator.
-
yep, I called and they told me nooooo teeth cleaning. As for the stint coming out.... They said it was just about as uncomfortable as a GYN visit.... I said "gee thanks" :)
