Title: Will my native kidneys ever work again?
Post by: paddbear0000 on April 21, 2008, 04:59:12 PM
Ok, as you all know, i'm in the process of pursuing a kidney/pancreas transplant. I have another question. My function is still at 20%. If I were to have the transplant while I was still at 20% function, and the transplant rejected immediately, would my native kidneys go back to doing the work so I wouldn't have to go on dialysis?

I have a friend that her first transplant didn't work. Her native kidneys were working enough for a few months to keep her off of dialysis. She did have to go on dialysis for awhile before her second transplant. My native kidney (the left one is barely there) on the right side is still working almost two years after my transplant.
