Welcome, Michele! Was that your choice, to do in-center hemo?

I'm glad you're here!  I'll be sure to put your name on my IM list!

Welcome to our community!  I am sorry that you had to face ESRD as such an early age.  However, I know the strength of the human spirit in face of challenges, and it seems to me you are taking them head-on!  Keep on keeping on!  We are with you all the way!  :grouphug; There is lots to read here and we expect you to post a lot as well.  We even have a section specially for people of your age group.  So please take advantage of all this site has to offer.

Howdy Mishy !  :waving;

You'll get lots of  :cuddle; and  :rofl; here. That's what makes this site so great is the seriousness when needed and the lightheartedness to offset the crappy stuff. My mom is still predialysis. IHD is a place to talk about anything because that's what dialysis affects - everything. And like you said in another post it is a pain in the  :sir ken;. (gotta love those icons)

haha thanks! yea.. I'm a HUGEEE bowie fan.. or as I like to say " his biggest smallest fan!" lol

Well It's wasnt really choice.. I couldn't do PD because I had way way too many stomach surgeries and they said that PD wouldn't even work one bit and I may get an infection that will be even worse.

and I have extremely crappy veins.. I mean crappy.. it takes them like 5 sticks to get in a 24gauge baby IV! so I had only one choice a graph.. and you can't do Nxstage with a graph..

so yep..

I actually had CKD since very early childhood.. about 6(maybe) and went into ESRD at 11.. But I have been "sick" my entire life.. (born without a bladder..need I say more?) and some other problems.. so I am kinda used to.. like I know about "normal" life.. but this is all i know.. I'm like those polygamist wifes.. who don't know the outside world.. but have heard of it. But I try my best at being "normal" i think as I get older and begin to "find" myself I have learned better to seperate myself from my "illness" .. like before I always put my medical stuff ahead of everything.. But I have been trying to live.. and not always think about medical stuff.. It sounds bad when I say it "outloud" but It's not like I forget it all and go crazy.. but I always tended to put my life on hold for the medical stuff... and work my life AROUND my illnesses.. now I try to work my illnesses around my life..

liek with dialysis i know nothing is going to change suddenly so I know that I'm busy from a to b.. but all my friends know this so we hang after whatever.. or they visit sometimes..
plus I do my best at doing things even if I don't always feel up to it(who ever feels up to school reports and algebra?! :urcrazy;) ..

I seriously HATE calling it "kidney disease" it's not a "disease".. it makes it sound like the plague...

Hey Mishy  :welcomesign; to IHD.  I cracked up at your comparison to being a polygamist wife. :rofl; know what ya meant. exactly.  Great attitude btw. You're so right about having to try to have a real life even though CKD takes up way too much time (and sucks up too much energy).  Sounds like you already have some good friends and now you have tons more from being here. Hope to hear from you often.

"now I try to work my illnesses around my life.."

Welcome, Mishy. You do have a great attitude! I am a caregiver to my husband and you make a great role model for BOTH of us. (I tend to work my life around his illness.)

From one big Bowie fan to another,
Annabanana

 :waving;  and   :clap;  Great introduction.  No bladder?  That sounds wild!  What had to be done immediately?  Were you permanently fixed with a catheter or some sort?

Well.. I had a stoma until I was about 6.. then they built the bladder part out of stomach and they used the appendix and other bits.. really I was too young to remember. But yes, I must use a cath.. since i was born without a bladder there is no "sensation" or nerves to control the muscles and feeling the need to go.. so the way out is a cath ... unless you like being septic.. but the procedure is called  a "mitrofenoff" sp? its not too bad except somehow it is now full and i cannot put the cath in and I have to go in tomorrow and have a look inside.. which includes the bonus of general anaesthesia. :2thumbsup;
