My cat, Sunny ( I named myself after her), died today. I had to take her to the Vet and have her put to sleep.
The thing is, she was dying of kidney failure and was 15 years old. She was diagnosed with kidney failure two
years ago and I was told that her kidneys would give out someday. I tried everything that worked for me to
keep her kidneys working for as long as possible, for we both suffered the same ailment - - kidney failure.
She stopped eating and drinking three days ago and kept getting weaker and sicker. She started smelling of death.
I kept hoping she would go to sleep and pass away gently. But instead, she was slowly starving to death. It was
terrible to see. It certainly has me thinking of my own mortality and what it might be like to die a slow death
of renal failure.
Who will sit with me now while I read the morning newspaper?

Oh I am so sorry about Sunny :cuddle;. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet, they become more than a pet, they are your family. I lost my dog a couple of months back and still cry thinking of her. Big hugs!! :grouphug;

:grouphug; you could not let her suffer and she is out of pain now, words won't make you feel better though, so sending you love and hugs,. :grouphug;

I know your grief, I adore my cats...Slugger is going thru a weird stage and she is 15. I spent over 400.00 and still do not know what is wrong.
She all of a sudden freaks out and goes crazy.
I had a cat die and I had her for 20 years, Putt-Putt.
I am sorry , someone on IHD called pets furbabies and that works for me.
Sunny had a nice loving life and I wish every pet could have the same.
-
I'm so sorry, Sunny. I have 4 cats myself and I know how it feels to lose one. It's almost as bad as losing a child.

I am so sorry Sunny. I lost my first dog a few years ago, that day is still stuck in my memory. I know how sad you must be. :grouphug; :grouphug; :grouphug;

Sorry to hear Sunny. My first personal experience with death was with my moms cat in 2004. We took him to the vet with the sam problem popping up over several months andwe were just given some medicine. The last time there was no improvment and he was geting worse. I wanted my mom to take him to another vet because I felt the vet had no idea what they were doing. With him losing weight and trouble breathing I decided to heck with my credit card and made an appointment with a new vet to get in ASAP from school. I came home from class to take him to vet. He looked bad and I thought he had died. I rubbed his belly and I heard him wheez. As I was going to the vet, he was making sounds I never heard before. When I got there to pull him out of my vehicle, I checked on him. He stopped breathing, so I massaged his body again and rushed into the vet. I was taken back immediately and he crashed again. This time there was nothing that could be done. I felt really bad because he died in pain to me, there was nothing I could do, I lost a good friend, and I was angry because my mom didn't take him to another vet sooner. It was a shock off my life to have someone I love die on me and we do not know the cause of. I couldn't afford an autopsy since it was about over $1000 to do. So he is buried at our house in his bed and favorite blanket. I miss him, he was a character since he was a kitten.Odd part is that it seems that my moms two cat's know where he is buried and purposefully stay off the ground where he is at. Hard to explain, easier to be seen.
I am glad you were able to spend some good quality time with your cat since the diagnosis of kidney failure. .
Again, I am sorry to hear about you pet

I'm sleeping a little bit closer to Slugger tonight.
have you thought of going to a pound and rescuing a cat in honor of Sunny

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Ruth and I send our condolences.

So, so sorry to read about your Sunny.
We also lost our beloved Shih Tzu Smbuca
to kidney failure in February. Pets have a
very special place in our hearts and also our
families, and it is so very hard to let them go.
My thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry, Sunny. I know what it's like. I'm glad you had her in your life.
-
I have lost a number of cats in the last 10 years (5),it sucks each and every time,at least you know you gave sunny a good loving home.
-
Reading your words helps immensely. Thank you so much.
Yesterday when my husband got home from work we buried Sunny in our yard. I planted a "Monkey flower" over her from our local nursery in honor
of her monkey shenanigans she was always pulling on us. My 17 year old daughter bought a cat garden statue on-line which we will place at the site.
I can see this out my kitchen window and it will provide good memories. Aside from my grandparents and very old uncles, I have never had a
personal loss before. Here I am 48 years old with my first loss and I guess I should be grateful it took this long to touch me.
Here's to wishing all of you long life and good health.
-
You were lucky to have gone so far before you experienced a personal loss. I'm glad for you that
it took so long. I'm sorry it was your fur baby, though. That really hurts, I know.
:grouphug;
-
I understand the pain you're feeling. It's awful to lose a four-legged family member. I'm sorry. :cuddle;
-
Dear Sunny... *tight hugs* I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling at the loss of your furry friend... all I can say is that she is in a better, happier place now. It is one of my nightmares thinking of my own cat being so sick and weak and wanting her to just gracefully pass away in her sleep without distress or discomfort. You did the right thing having her put to sleep as horrible as that is.. at least you could be with her at the end.. I am sure Sunny knew how much you loved her and what you were doing for her.
You and Sunny are in my thoughts (and I'm sheding a tear right now thinking about it).
Hang in there.....
-
:cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle; I'm so sorry about Sunny. I lost both of my 22 year old cats within the last year, so I feel your pain.

>:( So sorry to hear about your loss Sunny. Thinking of you.

:grouphug; Surrounding you with a hug. I am so sorry for your lost furbaby. They are so precious, give us so much joy, and add so much to our lives.
I have 4 of them, and now have 4 kittens who will be a week old on Friday. They help me in many many ways.
Again, my thoughts are with you.

It is wonderful that you have found a spot for Sunny in your back yard where you can have her remains close and you can remember her. I have already organised a spot for my cat to go in my brother's garden(I don't have one living in an apartment) and he is happy to have her there when the time comes. I think just loving your pet that much is important and I am certain they know.
-
Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts.
Today our cat garden statue arrived and it is now sitting out in the yard where she is buried. It is purrrrrrrfect!
I keep hearing her around the house, my imagination I know.
-
When it rains it pours, as they say.
I was so busy caring for my cat in her last days that I overlooked my 10 year old black lab mix.
On Friday I noticed blood in her water bowl so I looked in her mouth. She had a huge swelling the size of a golf ball in the lower left
jaw. I took her to the vet right away and they diagnosed her with a cancerous tumor. They ran some tests and today
the vet told me my dog would have a long and difficult road ahead should I decide on surgery to remove the
tumor. It would require extensive surgery with no guarantees everything would be removed. I have decided it would be best to have my beloved dog Sparky euthanized. She has become tired and listless,can't close her mouth because the tumor has gotten even bigger in just days, has trouble eating, and has continuous bleeding near the
site. I feel so bad for her and can't bare to watch the suffering. I cannot believe I am having such lousy luck with my animals. I have to keep in mind that both of my animals were old
and their illnesses are common for their ages. But it sure is hard to take all at once. I find myself questioning my actions wondering if I have done all I could, yet also knowing
that as their mother it is my job to do what is right for them. At least I know both my cat and dog had good lives.

Sunny-- :cuddle;--you have had a tough time with your pets. My sweet dog is old and not doing good and I know I will have to make a decision soon. I watch him laying there and look to see if he is breathing. My husband says he can't have him put down, so that will be my job. I am sad for you and for Sparky. Sending you love :cuddle;
-
Sorry for your loss, I know how it feels to lose a pet it's been 2 years since I lost my dog and I still miss him.
-
I'm so sorry, Sunny. I dread the day when I will have to make those decisions with mine.
-
So sorry to hear this, Sunny. I know how painful it is when our furry family members must leave us. Losing one pet is bad enough, and then to lose two . . . Well, that's awfully hard. Hang in there, Sunny. I'm sending warm thought and hugs. :cuddle; :grouphug; :cuddle; :grouphug;
-
Oh, Sunny. How hurtful to have to go through it again. :grouphug; :grouphug;
-
So sorry to read of all this pain, Sunny. My thoughts are
with you. :cuddle;

Oh Sunny. I'm so sorry! Having worked for a vet, I've seen this before and you are making the right decision. The surgery usually does not get it all, and by doing the surgery, you would just be adding misery to your poor dog's life on top of not being able to extend it. Sparky will be in a much better place. :cuddle; :cuddle; :cuddle;
-
It's very sad about Sparky but I admire your decision to not prolong your sweet pet's suffering. Not easy but right in my opinion. My brother is a vet and he would certainly think you made the best choice for Sparky. Losing both your pets so close together is really tough though. :grouphug;
-
I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I have two of my own and I don't even want to think about when their time comes.
:cuddle;
-
sorry to hear......... :(
:grouphug;
-
So sad to lose pets so close together. :grouphug;
-
I am so sorry to hear this, it's a tough time for you. It may help you to know you did do the right thing, my friend's dog had the same thing and was operated on twice, it came back each time and she had to have him put down, she wished she had done it to start with as it only put him through 2 unnecessary operations. Of course she thought she was doing her best at the time. I feel for you :grouphug;
-
Thank you for listening and understanding.
Last evening was the first time I didn't have to feed either a cat or a dog. I went outside to fill the water bowl for Sparky,
then realized there was no need. I broke down and cried like a baby, and filled the bird bath with water instead--some consolation.
I will miss her. Everyday she was there to greet me. She took such good care of our 1 acre property. I feel lucky to have had her.
I rescued her from the SPCA as a pup. They would have put her down because she had mange so I had her treated for it and
she became such a wonderful companion. A very sweet and gentle dog, even if she was a huge 95 pound ball of muscled fur.
Maybe I can think of them as being together still, Sparky and Sunny.
-
:'( I am so sorry.
:cuddle; HUGS
-
Oh Sunny, I am so sorry for your losses :cuddle;. I had to put my dog Skye down in January and it wasn't easy, I still cry at times when I think of her. Even though it hurts, it's nice to know Sunny was waiting for Sparky up in Heaven and they have each other now.
-
I'm so sorry about your cat. <3 I was crushed when my childhood doggie died a few years ago. It is super hard to lose a close animal friend. :grouphug;
