Hi, Toad. I did PD for 3 years, but I kept getting really serious peritonitis-- they later discovered I am a nasal staph carrier and should never have been started on PD because my staph was contaminating my catheter every time I did a treatment. Even though my PD nurse said my technique was excellent, the staph eventually contaminated all 3 of my catheters, with the last infection almost killing me and requiring exploratory surgery to get all of it out... with the added bonus of a 104-degree fever complete with hallucinations.
Originally I liked PD because I didn't have to put up with needles, but eventually I needed to do 5 treatments a day, and that got to be a real hassle. Originally I was on a cycler, but because of the position of my catheter in my abdomen, I couldn't drain while lying down--- the catheter dug into my bladder and there's no WAY you can sleep through that!
For some people, PD works-- it didn't for me. I hope you have continued good luck with your PD, and that you never have to switch.

six months from the time that i was told that i would have 2 have dialysis i spent +searching 4 all the info i could find
i looked at PD decided that infection risks outweighed unlikely benefits and said no thanks and decided on hemo
i know its only my opinion but i cant understand why onyone would want 2 do PD

Yeah I just couldn't handle emotionally doing 4-5 exchanges EVERY day. I do M.W.F. then I am FREE on Tue and Thur and the weekend.

In my case, I had a severe needle phobia and I felt that PD would be easier on me... man, was I wrong! :-\ No matter what you do, there's a lot of complications.

Toad,
I'm on PD. Have been since Apr. 2004. I'm happy with my decision. I feel like I have so much more freedom than HD. Plus no needles except for the monthly labs, insuling shots and aranesp every 3 weeks.
I don't have fluid restrictions, and such minor diet restrictions.
