Title: An Update on Devon
Post by: devon on March 31, 2008, 11:32:59 AM
I was scheduled to have Bariatric LapBand surgery on 3/27 but I had to pass on it for now. I'm having some other problems that are currently diagnosed as diverticulitis.  However, after nearly a month or treatment and no change in the symptoms, I'm seeking a second opinion.  I have an appointment on Thursday to have another doc consider this case.

I'm glad I didn't have the surgery. I'm getting good results from the OptiFast diet I'm on and didn't need the additional problem of trying to recover from this surgery after the Fistula surgery on 3/14.  I don't think I have it in me to recover that quickly any more.

That's the latest.  Hope y'all are fairing well.

Best wishes to you and congratulations on your weight loss success!!!! A co-worker had diverticulitis last year and needed surgery for it. It sounds like a very painful condition and I'm sorry you need to go through this.

I'm with you - one surgery at a time is enough!  Good luck with keeping up the diet - we all know how hard that can be!

Hate to hear about the divertic... they say it is very painful.  I have bouts of colitis and that's no fun either.
Good luck with your Opti- Fast diet, that is a lot better than surgery.

Love, Mimi

An update to an update...

I met with the nephrologist yesterday and all my chemistry is actually improved! My creatinine is down a while point to 4.7 rather than the previous 5.7.  He actually looked very relieved.  PLUS,  he's getting on the bandwagon that I can continue to push off dialysis for several more months.  That's quite a change.  Earlier this month he was warning me about not having enough time for the fistula to heal before I would have to start dialysis but now he said that perhaps I could delay longer than the 3-4 months for the fistula to heal!  Good news, eh?

It's been a real roller-coaster!

Oh and since my rant about my son not helping out, I've started talking more about my situation and his involvement in it.  I haven't done it yet, but I plan to have him peruse this forum so he might better understand.

And someone asked about OptiFast... no restrictions and generally I am not hungry. I have one container about every two hours and rarely feel hungry (six a day).  The taste isn't the greatest --- like chocolate flavored chalk --- but tolerable.

Later y'all!

Hi Devon - good news about pushing back the dialysis.   :clap;

So, you are only drinking Optifast?  No solid food?  My hat is off to you - I would not be able to do that particular diet.  I need some crunching action.  However, since my transplant I have lost 30 lbs.  My doctor always told me I was lugging around 15 to 20 lbs. of fluid - which I found hard to believe.  But now I do believe her.

Stay strong on that diet.  You can do it!!!!!

Take care

Sandyb
