Hi Everyone I'm penning in from Auckland New Zealand. I'm happy to have found this site. My 34 year old son began Haemodyalysis 6 mths ago having been diagnosed with Renal failure 18 mths. prior late 2005. We had no idea he had health problems until one day he woke up and was 'puffed up' from head to toe. A visit to the doctor saw him hospitalised, 10 litres of fluid drained, tests tests and more tests, a kidney biopsy and a diagnosis of end stage renal failure. Long story short he had a hard time pre-dialysis but he's doing real well now (except for that damn itch), dailysing 3 times a week, looking fantastic again, and has been Aokaid for a transplant. We're about to start procedures re:me being a possible donor, so fingers and toes crossed that all necessary bits are in good nick. He was a personal trainer before diagnosis so if I am accepted I will be the fittest, healthiest mummy on this whole island. We're planning on this total transformation from slug to lean mean machine taking 6 months. Arohanui to you all .....T

:waving; Hi tstone!
I hope all goes well and you are approved as your son's donor. There's lots of good info, and a message forum, for living donors at www.livingdonorsonline.org.
They say recovery from surgery is easier when you are in good physical shape, so the training will help!
I hope your son is feeling better and you learn more about what he's going through by reading all the experiences shared here.
Welcome!

Hi everyone and thanx for the warm welcome. I've been exploring the site over the last couple of days and have found that this is indeed a site of champions, your stories, your support of one another, and the love you share, gave me a good opportunity to have a good cry, I haven't been able to do that very well so far. Biggest biggest biggest ever hugs to everyone. Hey Ang from Melbourne my hubby is a Melbournite. His mum and two of his brothers live there, (my poor Australian hubby having to live in New Zealand, it must be love) I love your city, our son was born in New South Wales on Warregah Island...next time we visit Melbourne I'll let you know and if you're up for a visit or a phonecall .......
