I was driving to dialysis yesterday and wanted to get some gas. I got into the left turning lane and misjudged how fast a car was going and was hit on my front passenger side. It was my fault basically. My car was totaled. The 2 girls in the other car were about my age, maybe 20 or so. They were driving in a Toyota Rav-4 and I was in my little 93 Lumina. Nobody was hurt thank god, except we all were shaken up and had some scrapes and bruises. My dad paid the insurance on that car so hes a bit upset with me but mostly glad nobody was hurt- or worse. I am now looking at getting a new car so I can help out my parents and not have to depend on them for a ride. I am pretty sore today and still pretty shaken up. I am so mad at myself for not using better judgement, I have lost a few friends to car accidents and now I know more than ever how short life can be. I am lucky I was wearing my seatbelt because if not I would have probably been hurt bad. Just wanted everyone to know I am okay and to remind people to always think on the road and to just take your time and not to rush, it's definitely not worth it!

I got into a crash last year and totaled my car, it also was my fault. I was lucky with just a bruised arm. Every one needs to slow down. Good to hear you are ok.
-
Glad no one was seriously hurt. I've been in 4 car accidents. Neither one wasn't our fault. The 1st and 3rd accident was pretty bad, but we survive with few scratches. Happy that you are safe.

Sorry to hear this, Karen. Car accidents suck to begin with, and then knowing it was your own fault makes it feel that much worse. How fortunate, though, that no one was hurt; that's the most important thing. Glad to hear you're okay. Don't be too hard on yourself -- try to think of this as a learning experience (I know -- who needs another $&@#ing learning experience!! :)) that could have been much worse -- and focus on what good can come out of it. Hang in there.

Rookie girl is that just a new way to take the blame? "Neither one wasn't our fault" Just giving you a hard time, I know what you meant. :)
Karen, Glad your children are OK and I guess you too, :) These things happen, my driving skills have greatly diminished from when I was younger. I'm very cautious so I don't miss something but I still make mistakes. I don't speed anymore and I look extra times. I had been rear ended in February 2006 and it took a year to straighten out my back. After a year of waiting I only ended up with $4000.00 after all my expenses. I was hoping for more.
Ok I still speed on the bike. :rofl;

Glad you are ok Karen.

Karen.. so glad to hear that you are ok..

I'm glad you're ok and sorry about the bad judgement. Don't beat yourself up too much. It's called an "accident" not an "on purpose!" We all make mistakes.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I actually went to a dealer in my town and am getting a new KIA Sportage! I was out of a car yesterday and now am getting a new one a day later! I am pretty happy with the car- it is SAFE, runs great, looks great, and it was just 219 down plus 219 a month, then i am helping my dad with the insurance cost, and paying for the gas, which I did with my other car anyways. I didnt feel very safe in my old 93 lumina so this is a much better car, plus I am excited since I have never had a brand new car. The color is Black Cherry, and it's pretty spacious.

karen, I glad you and the other people are OK :grouphug;. Congratulations on you new car. BE CAREFUL, you don't want to ding it.

karen
glad to hear your ok
take care.

Glad you are ok Karen. I thank God everyday for keeping me safe. I seem to get in close calls way too often. I usually don't think I've done anything wrong and am surprised when I get the horn and then the finger with cuss words.
:angel;

WOW, that was one way to get a new car...j/k :rofl; $219 is pretty reasonable these days. Hope you got a good warranty..I'm not sure what KIA offers but it is a reasonable way to get a new one, you will be happy with that car.

Karen, glad you are ok. And it is fun to have a new car!
I didnt feel very safe in my old 93 lumina
Are you kidding me, though? My husband has a '98 Lumina, and compared to my Honda, it feels like a tank! Maybe they made lots of changes in those 5 years, though.

I have to agree with you I would feel safer in a Lumina compared to a smaller car. However, you get something you like with what you can afford. My first new car was a small car, then moved up to a truck. When renting a car, I now hate getting stuck with small cars.

OMG, so scary...glad you all are okay. PITA getting car stuff straightened out though. My 16 yo is 6'5 1/2" and I think we finally decided to get him a trail blazer. He is so tall that he has to bend his head down to see oncoming traffic. He has too many blind spots in a car. My brother will only drive SUVs and trucks. Says cars are way too small.
