Honey, will you marry... Oh. Never mind...
Fri Mar 14, 10:48 AM ET
It is the one moment every man wants to get right -- and which London floor-fitter Lefkos Hajji could hardly have got more wrong.
The luckless 28 year-old's dreams of giving his sweetheart, Leanne, 26, the ultimate proposal have literally vanished into thin air.
Hajji, of Hackney, east London, had concealed a $12,000 engagement ring inside a helium balloon. The idea was that she would pop the balloon as he popped the question.
But as he left the shop, a gust of wind pulled the balloon from his hand and he watched the ring -- and quite possibly the affections of his girlfriend -- sailing away over the rooftops.
"I couldn't believe it," he told The Sun newspaper.
"I just watched as it went further and further into the air.
"I felt like such a plonker. It cost a fortune and I knew my girlfriend would kill me."
Hajji spent two hours in his car trying to chase and find the balloon, without success.
"I thought I would give Leanne a pin so I could literally pop the question," he said.
"But I had to tell her the story -- she went absolutely mad. Now she is refusing to speak to me until I get her a new ring."
He is hoping the ring will still turn up.
"It would be amazing if someone found it," he added.

The idea was cute.. I bet he feels like such a looser..
But she a jerk....really.. does it matter?

Us men have all had a few plans go astray when it comes to showing affection but probabley not anything quite like this. He needs to tell her to go fly a kite, find someone more appreaciative and understanding.

I dont live in London, but im outside now , keeping an eye out for that balloon ! :rofl;

The way the wind is blowing it could end up where I am (it's a 3 hour drive from London but it's very windy tonight) :rofl;

Hell Rose, as windy as it is here on east coast of US, I might even find it. I'd have to return it to the guy. Funny but you have to feel sorry for him. That's a bunch of money.

As long as he pays the postage.. :rofl;

Wow... that would have been one heck of a proposal. I feel bad for him though (and not just because the ring cost $12,000), and I think it's stupid that his girlfriend isn't talking to him right now. I mean, that was quite thoughtful of him, even though it didn't go through as planned

Am I the only one that thinks this is one a bonehead move on his part?
Who wants to spend the rest of their life with someone daft enough to put a 12k ring in a helium balloon?
:rofl;

Well, that's a good point... lol I know I wouldn't do that, b/c I wouldn't want the balloon to fly away lol

Vandie, that is how I felt. Great idea if you keep the balloon indoors, but the minute you are outside---what did he expect? How many kids lose their free balloons from restaurants? And you are going to put a $12,000 ring inside one? Crazy!

Maybe he never had balloons as a child :(
