Title: Teachers
Post by: kitkatz on February 26, 2008, 06:34:24 PM

AREN'T YOU ALL SICK OF THOSE HIGH-PAID TEACHERS??

Their hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they
only work nine or ten months a year! It's time we put
things in perspective and pay them for what they
do...baby-sit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage. That is
right. I would give them $3.00 dollars an hour and
only the hours they worked, not any of that silly
planning time.

That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 AM to 4:00 PM with
45 min. off for lunch).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these
teachers to baby-sit their children.

Now, how many do they teach in a day... maybe 30?
So that's 19.5 X 30 = $585.00 a day. However,
remember they only work 180 days a year! I am not
going to pay them for any vacations.

Let's see . . .. that's $585 x 180 = $105,300 per
year.

(Hold on! My calculator must need batteries!)

What about those special teachers and the ones with
Master's degrees?
Well, we could pay them minimum wage just to be fair,
round it off to $7.00 an hour.
That would be $7 times 6-1/2 hours times 30 children
times 180 days =$245,700.00 per year.

Wait a minute, there is something wrong here!

There sure is, duh!

Make a teacher smile; send this to someone who
appreciates teachers!

(Average teacher salary $50,000/180 days =
$277per day/30 students =
$9.23/6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student.)
Very inexpensive babysitter and they even educate
your kids! Crazy!

Amen, Teacher Kitkatz!

I received this in another email today, and I loved it!
Thanks for sharing it again.

And, by the way, concerning this:

(Average teacher salary $50,000/180 days =

In the state of North Carolina, a teacher with 20 (yes, that's twenty) years of experience makes $42,000 for 180 days of teaching (220 total days of working).  Sometimes, I think I could make more money and have a lot less work and stress if I worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart.  But, then I'd miss my students, so I guess I'll stay where I am.

Teachers teach for the kids---this year has been so hard, giving up my little guys. I miss the classroom, the planning ---- not the parents who all think their children are way above all the other students.

I am sure we all remember our favorite teachers. Mine was Mr.Roberts, Drama and Speech.  He believed in me.

Petey, your students need you---WalMart doesn't! :rofl;

Hey always knew we were underpaid!!!  I teach grade 2 and special needs.  I have a few parents I wouldn't mind sending this to!!!  They seem to think I have it too easy sometimes.  Especially if I come home some afternoons at 3 o'clock.  They don't see me when I go to school sometime during the weekends or after supper!!!  Can we be paid overtime too!! :rofl;

FOUR days of school left!  I have told all of my classes, we will be working until the last day of school. I have planned for it and we will be working.  Bring a pencil every day!  They do not need to know a movie is coming the last two days to go with the book we are reading.  Hehhehehe!

I'm a high school ceramics teacher and I like the idea of getting 20 bucks a day from each parent of each student.  Heck, I'd take $20 a week. :)

I miss teaching, too.  Especially the funny things kids say and do.  Like one speech that ended with these immortal words, "We're all different, but thank goodness we're all the same."  And I don't think the student was trying to be profound, just trying to finish the speech without passing out or throwing up.  But I used to tell them that I haven't had a single student die from having to give a speech.  I didn't want to retire early and miss out on seeing kids overcome their fears and find out they can do something they never thought they could.  But mostly I miss the happy hour after the last day of school before summer vacation!

I was an Elementary school teacher and recall all the extra hours put in to correct papers or invent really captivating lessons.
My husband is in his 20th year of teaching high school and has it sooooooo "dialed in" that he rarely works outside the classroom. Plus he has ScanTron
correct most of his schoolwork. Teaching can be so different depending on what grade is taught or how many years of experience you have. Either
way, it is very rewarding. Think of the impact teachers have on the future of children.

I'm with you on that one twirl.
I cried everyday for a year when I gave up teaching. I finally have gotten beyond that sadness, but sometimes, especially this time of year,
it really hits. Don't worry, you'll be just as good at something else in life. It just may take a while to find it. Ex teachers are good at a lot of different
things because they are usually very smart people.

I spent the last year as a Room Dad for my sons 1st grade class .
What a ball we had ,
It was such a learning experience to be able to see my son interact with the
other kids in the class .
The teacher was happy also .  In30+ years of teaching she had never had a room Dad .
As qn end of school gift I was given a class picture with all the kids thumb prints with
a face drawn by each student .  What a gift

today was the day that seniors found out if they are graduating.  And I wasn't there.  I so wanted to know how my juniors from last year did as seniors (if I wasn't let go, I would have been their teacher).  some kids saw me the other say and said "Ma'am, we hope you are coming to our graduation!".   I feel so out of it.  I have been teaching since 1968........ and now this.
Twirl, we have to get together and have a pity party with Paris.

Lordy, Lord! I have been sitting in a room with fifty other teachers for four days. I am about to lose my mind.  They talk, talk, talk all of the time even when the presenter is talking. I am having a tough time hearing what people are saying over the low murmuring.  Sheez! I want to stand up and say "shut the hell up. I can't hear." I do a lot of shushing. *Sigh*.

And then the nice lady next to me turnd in devil lady  >:D this afternoon as we are leaving.  She was putting on some hand cream, and reached over to my face and put it on me! Yes on me! Without me even asking about it! As she touched me with it "I said don't do that. I am allergic to 90% of the hand creams perfumes on the market!"  She then tried to wipe it off with her shirt.  PUHLEASE!  Leave me alone.  You made it bad enough already! What was she thinking!

When I got home I finally got the goo off of my face and washed my face.  I think I am okay. However I took a benedryl because the sinuses decided to kick because of the perfume in the hand cream.
My husband says It sounded like a pass.  Oh shit. Just what I don't need!

I think a few  :Kit n Stik; :Kit n Stik; :Kit n Stik; need to be done!  I am going to lay the guilt on thick tomorrow!

Don't get me wrong I love working with other teachers, just do not need these things!

Hey Kitkatz,

If you can use marine biology, ecology or oceanography examples for math lessons let me know.  (that's what I teach at the graduate school level, but I have visited schools to talk to kids of all ages).

Also, I absolutely understand the cream thing.  I am allergic to many, many kinds of makeup, lotions, perfume, etc.  Sometimes when people with perfume or cologne hug me it sends me into an allergic reaction!

I would like to be added to the pity party.  I have not been able to work since October.  I am not a teacher, by profession I am a sign language interpreter.  I have interpreted in the classroom for 13 years and my last two I spent working with 3, 4,5 and 6 year old special needs children.  I used my signing skills with all kinds of special needs children to get some language from them (down syndrome, ESL, autism, etc....)  I miss those little guys soooo much!  My job has told me not to worry, I have a job to come back to... but I'm kinda scared.  School will start in August and by then I will be 2 1/2 months post transplant.... I must admit, infection scares me to death.    My kiddos come to school alllllll the time when they are sick.  It isn't just that.... some of our kids are more special needs than others and from August to October I had already been bit several times... scratched.... peed  on... pooped on..... and thrown up on.... that is infection just waiting to happen!
