So what did you think of them this year?
Any surprises?
-
I only saw a few minutes of the show. I believe it was the best actress in a leading role. The person that won, I don't have a clue who she is.
-
If the host would stop saying uh and um I might have enjoyed it better.
-
I do have to say though, that I think John Stewart did a good job. His humor fits in with the Academy crowd very well.....
-
I read this today - interesting cahnge from year's in the past:
Every one of the evening's winning actors came from outside American borders, and the ceremony's dominant film -- best picture winner "No Country for Old Men" -- was created by a pair of filmmaking brothers from Minnesota who have never made a mainstream movie in their three-decade career.
Awards went more toward foreigners throughout the awards show, with an especially strong showing from Europe.
"There Will Be Blood's" best actor Daniel Day-Lewis lives in Ireland, while "La Vie en Rose" surprise best actress winner Marion Cotillard makes her home in Paris. Spain's Javier Bardem was named best supporting actor for "No Country for Old Men," and Scotland's Tilda Swinton won best supporting actress for "Michael Clayton." Many of the evening's lower-profile awards -- for art direction, makeup, costume design and animated short among them -- went to non-American filmmakers and designers.

I didn't get to see them this year and I don't recognize any of the winners. Oh well there is always next year.
-
:thumbdown; We tried to watch some of it, didn't recognize any of the winners and it got really boring to us so we channel surfed to find something else. Just my :twocents;

I really enjoyed the awards this year -- I am a huge John Stewart fan.

I thought this was interesting -- the Coen Brothers wrote and directed academy award winning Fargo and Oscar nominated Oh Brother where art thou?, as well as The Big Lebowski, Bad Santa, The Man who wasn't there and Intolerable Cruelty... all main stream films... Most people have considered Coen Brother movies golden for several years now...
Anyways - I always enjoy when unknowns win - I mean, most years we watch Hilary Swank and Ron Howard win - so I like it when the underdogs get in there - it's what makes the future stars (although No Country was by no means an underdog, they considered that the front runner all along and Daniel Day Lewis is well known - this is his 2nd oscar and 4th nomination...)
I enjoy them every year.

never watched the awards any year, here in australia, they advertise the major awards on the radio and nightly news services, then expect you to sit and watch the entire program later that night. :urcrazy;
