Hi my name is Tabitha. I am from Oregon, I have been a dialysis patient since July of 2006. I did in center hemo up till November of 2007, I now am a home hemo patient and find its much better. My kidney failure is from diabetes, runs both sides of the family.
I have had my share of ups and downs. My biggest struggle is fluid and phrouserous.
I co-founded a non-profit organization Salem Dialysis Advocates for patients the first of this year. Were changing the Salem part to Oregon. We are incorporating these programs in, Transportation, Rent/Utilities Medication, life enrichment, and were starting to look into putting food bank in to the centers. What were trying to do is help patients with needs as well as being supportive. We want to educate the public and patients to.
Were hoping take this state wide and getting the other centers involved. I hope if anyone would like to know more feel free to contact me.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and getting to know me.

Hello and :welcomesign;
IHD is a fantastic place to be and a great place to network with other patients, caregivers, family members and people in the industry. I have been interested in getting involved in patient advocacy and helping patients with everday issues. I never figured out a way to make it happen; but it seems you are doing something similar! Good luck with your venture and I hope to hear more about what you are doing through your posts.
Read, post and be merry

Hi Tabitha and welcome. Is your mom's name Samantha by any chance? Just kidding. Your organization offers some really common sense and necessary assistance. Tell us a little more about it. How do you fund it? How do you determine need? Transportation for those unable to get to treatment is one of my pet peeves. How would that be provided? I look forward to hearing more about your organization.

It sounds like you have taken the ball and began to run with it with your organization. Many dialysis patients I have talked to need a little extra support in areas that Medicare does not cover. Sometimes transportation becomes a worry because due to little errors it gets cancelled or taken away or never was available. I wish you lots of luck with it. Welcome to the boards!

Hi Fierceheart, (I too love your name!)
It looks like you became a member just a few days before me. I just wanted to say I'm glad you are here. It looks like we have about 4 Oregon members here. And I saw somewhere that Grammalady may be moving to Oregon in August. That is a nice-sized little group of Oregonians.
Congratulations on founding your new organization. It certainly is a much needed service! We will be interested in hearing more about it.
