I have been getting a lot of Red 35 (Waste Line) alarms in the past three days, to the point to where I used a regular drain line today, instead of the PureFlow drain line. When I called my clinic about it yesterday, they told me that they had someone else with the same problem and that it was a bad box of cartridges. When the problem came back up today, I called NxStage.
I got Peter on the line and he told me that there was a new procedure released to the clinics about four to six weeks ago to flush the drain line in the PureFlow with a 30cc syringe with 10% bleach to clean it out.
Has anyone else gotten this new procedure? I have been on NxStage for about three weeks now and this wasn't explained to me during training. When I called my clinic today about getting some 30cc syringes, they said they hadn't heard about the new procedure, and didn't have any those size syringes.

Last night I went through 3 set ups, and kept getting 35/36. It was a nightmare. Of course Nxstage was busy, and it took forever, and finally at 11pm, on the third set up, I quit for the night.
When I called my clinic this morning, my nurse told me about the flushing procedure.

I've had the flushing procedure for a couple of months. You don't have to have a 30 cc syringe, but a 10 cc will take a really long time. Basically, it's just filling the drain line with the same bleach and water mix that you use to clean the machine after, letting it sit for 10 minutes, and then flushing with tap water a couple of times. I do it once a month, at the same time I use a lens cloth to clean the sensors.

I flush our PureFlow once a week with 2 30ml syringes of the bleach solution, to make it easier on myself, I cut the blue line from the cartridge about 8" from the end, saving the clamp on it, I put it into some really hot water to soften it up and then pushed it onto the end of the syringe, works really great to connect to the drain line connector, then open the yellow and blue clamp and push the mixture in. seeing as it is used with the bleach mixture, it can be saved and re-used for a long time........
