Have any of you had any experiences with the I Am Better Than You attitude? Was it your doctor, nurse or other staff member? Let's hear your experience with the incompetent but godly staff members.
I may not be a patient, but I still have to put up with the BS dished out by the staff. The main thing I cannot stand is the I Am Better Than You attitude displayed by some doctors and nurses. I have an electronics degree from DeVry and graduated with a 3.8 so I'm no dummy, yet some of these Medical "Professionals" treat everyone as though they are. I have constant run in's with the head nurse from our PD department. She believes she sits on a 20ft pedestal and that you should kiss her stinking feet, and I can't stand that. I'm a please and thank you kinda person and her attitude makes me sick. Aside from repairing the dialysis machines and facilities I am also responsible for all the ordering a bill paying for all departments in the clinic. Today an order was given to them of office supplies, and I didn't order the same item she had written down. I ordered the bronze version instead of the platinum version and she pitched a huge fit, threatening to get the area manager involved. I told her that was fine by me because the area manager is the one who put me in charge of making sure that supply costs stay reigned in. Well, what she ordered costs a whole lot more and she wants to argue the fact that she wants it so she should get it. We have had this argument before and she has had to compromise every time, so you think she would have learned by now. I guess she doesn't like me much because I don't bow down to her like the rest of the staff, so she figures she has to win sooner or later so she can try and save some face. She isn't the only one around here like that some of the doctors are too but I had rant about her anyway.

Hmmm, this gives me an idea. I had been thinking about it but I think now it's time.
By the way GREAT, GREAT rant.

I had to replace a nephrologist because of his "you're a fat, poor white trash, woman" attitude. I told him I wanted another doctor and he practically threw me out of the hospital the next day. He wanted to play guinea pig with me and my kidneys and I refused to do it. What a pigheaded jerk. He even called a family meeting with my husband to get me to change my mind. It didn't work. Hubby was with me all the way. Then Kaiser tried to give me back as a patient to him. I had a fit all over membership services, told them that HELL could freeze over before I went back to see that doctor ever again. So far I have had a great nephrologist assigned to me ever since!

Oh! No! Epoman's brain cell is going to explode again, with an idea "THE GREAT RANT" :-\ >:D
I feel sorry for you Hawkeye. NOT like you I do not take BS from the doctors, head sister. They get told what I think. Plus if the Head Sister is not there on that day, I have the problem. I e-mail her. I bet she is regretting giving me her e-mail address. If you said, what I say to the Head staff you would most probably be saying good by to you job. >:(

After having thought about it I really shouldn't have started this thread. I don't regret anything I said because it is all true, but this is not a site for me it's a site for the patients and their families to get information and vent. I was extremely frustrated that day and needed to tell somebody, and I knew that the people here would listen unlike anyone else I could talk to. If nothing else I knew that everyone could probably all relate in some way, but now I feel it was over stepping my bounds. I feel as though I am part of a close knit community here, but I need to remember why I am here. Not being a patient I'm here to help answer the questions and help solve the problems of the people this site was created for, not to b*tch about the sh*t going on in my life. I know no one has posted anything on this thread or sent me a message to bring forth this statement, I just feel kinda guilty. If I offended anybody I am sorry.

Hawkeye,
Do not worry about it, we all need to have a rant now and again. YOU are a part of the comunity on this site now, so you have every right to have your rant. Plus most of us know where you are coming from ;)

You have not offended us at all. We consider you part of our community. We are not the only people with reason to rant.
And look you have given some kind of idea to Epoman (still gritting my teeth and wondering what it could be!!)

I thank you both for your kindness, and hope everyone else feels the same. After reading your responses I don't feel so bad about it. Besides Bajanne2000 is right, Epoman has something cooking and that is always a good thing.

Now I see what Epoman had up his sleeve!! There is now a forum for people who work with dialysis. Feel free to rant and rave (even about patients, wow!!)

I didn't even see that when I signed in. I looked at the main forum page once I saw this, and there is was plain as day. Thank you Epoman for providing this new forum. Though I still stand by what I said before. This a a site for the patients and family to find the help and relief they need. It is a wonderful thing to have this new forum, but the staff members that do belong to this site need to keep in mind their purpose for joining.

Well how about a compromise, you can rant and vent if you help provide answers to patients questions. Deal? ;)

I think that this is the only place on the net that allows venting and ranting about anything that had to do with dialysis so this is perfect and 100% allowable.
Dialysis techs and nurses are people too ... but I understand the guilt. It is much the same as mu responsbility to D&T City and I came here to rant about the nurses that are part of that group. Sure it is not exactly the same since that is a forum and not a hosppital .. but the responsibility to others is the same and the guilt is still there when you rant and look non-professional. I think it is important to let it out however or else it just festers.
As long as everyone understands we are not bad mouthing ... ranting and raving and venting within reason .. here is the perfect place :) Thank you Epoman for giving us a place to do this :) This is why IHD is quickly becoming one of the top sites on the net!!
